Kinner FROM PAGE 1 during the break. "We tried to make it feel like a game with the con- ditioning level," Kerr said. The Warriors will take Wednesday off before re- turning to practice Thurs- day when they could know their second-round oppo- nent if Memphis wins at home Wednesday night. Lee did not play at all in the first round but was able to be in uniform in New Orleans when the team clinched the series and said he will be ready for round two. "It's always frustrating not being able to help the team out, especially being in a suit the first couple of games," he said. "You feel like an assistant coach, you don't feel part of the fun. At least on the road I was able to dress and I was avail- able those last two games if needed. That really makes you feel better to be a part of that." While the Warriors of- ten were forced to use a smaller lineup against the Pelicans, they might need to play bigger if Memphis is the opponent in the second round in order to match up with Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol. Starting power forward Draymond Green picked up two first-quarter fouls in the past two meetings against the Grizzlies, forc- ing Lee into the game ear- lier than usual. He aver- aged more than 15 min- utes in those two contests and played a key role in the 107-84 win in Memphis on March 27 with six points. "He'll have to come in and play 20 minutes and anchor our second unit," guard Stephen Curry said. "He's a guy who's always ready. He's done that all season. I know he just wants to be available and be healthy." It's been a tough sea- son personally for Lee, a former All-Star who was Golden State's best player in leaner years and re- mains the highest-paid player on the team. He was sidelined by a hamstring injury early in the season and lost his starting job when Green excelled in his place. Lee got only sporadic playing time during the season de- pending on matchups and had several games when he didn't play even when healthy. Lee played the fewest minutes of his career and averaged just 7.9 points per game — the lowest since his rookie year with the Knicks in 2005-06. As much as Lee would like to get more playing time, he understands why Kerr has utilized him the way he has. "This is about the team," Lee said. "If we were a ter- rible team it would be a different story. I'd be say- ing, 'Let me go in there and do something.' We've been successful and I've played a role and helped us win games. All that happened during the season doesn't matter now. All that mat- ters is we've gotten our- selves the number one seed and we will need every sin- gle guy on this team to try to win games." Lee FROM PAGE 1 round series, with the Griz- zlies holding a 3-1 lead there and looking to ad- vance. The Blazers, who ral- lied in the fourth quarter to win Game 4 and stave off a sweep, are still hoping to become the first team in NBA history to successfully rally from a 3-0 series def- icit. "It is game-by-game," Portland's LaMarcus Al- dridge said. "We have to bring that same mentality to Memphis, that same in- tensity to their house. We have to play confident of- fensively and defensively. If we do that, anything is possible." Atlanta, for the first time all season, is under real pressure. Kyle Korver's broken nose in March was largely downplayed, since he missed just three games. But he's seemed ordinary since returning, and strug- gled again in the Game 4 loss to Brooklyn on Mon- day. Before getting hurt, Kor- ver was poised to reach ba- sically the NBA's holy grail for shooters — the 50-50- 90 level. He was shooting 49.6 percent from the field, 50.1 percent from 3-point range, 90.2 percent from the foul line. Since coming back, Ko- rver is shooting 42 percent from the field, 40 percent from 3-point land and 85 percent from the foul line. Korver missed all four of his overtime 3-point tries in Monday's Game 4 loss, including three on the same possession with At- lanta trailing by three in the final minute. The Hawks are 9-10 in their last 19 games, albeit with many of those coming down the stretch of a reg- ular season where Atlanta had very little to play for since the No. 1 seed for the East playoffs was clinched. "This is what the play- offs are all about," Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer said. "What we expect is to be challenged. And this is a great challenge for us." A look at Wednesday's games, all times PDT: NETS AT HAWKS, SERIES TIED 2-2, 4 P.M., TNT Joe Johnson is shooting 33 per- cent and the series is tied, which is either a testament to how well Brooklyn has played of late, how big the struggle has been for At- lanta, or both. "We're definitely com- ing together as a unit," Nets guard Deron Williams said. "It's taken longer than we thought, a little longer than we hoped, but it's hap- pened." That being said, the Hawks have been here. Both first-round series for No. 1 seeds went seven games last season, with Indiana topping No. 8 At- lanta in the East and San Antonio holding off No. 8 Dallas out West on the way to eventually winning the NBA title. How even is this series? Here's the combined score so far: Brooklyn 394, At- lanta 393. The Nets have 188 rebounds, the Hawks 186. The Nets have 58 turn- overs, the Hawks 57. TRAIL BLAZERS AT GRIZ- ZLIES, MEMPHIS LEADS 3-1, 6:30 P.M., TNT The Griz- zlies are not happy with themselves after not clos- ing out Portland on Mon- day, blowing a 10-point lead with 8:38 left. They aren't using the ex- cuse of not having guard Mike Conley, who had sur- gery Monday to repair a facial fracture after tak- ing an elbow to the face in Game 3. Backups Beno Udrih and Nick Calathes combined for 25 points and six assists filling in for Con- ley. "We're not happy with ourselves," Udrih said. "We're better than that." The Blazers avoided the sweep thanks in large part to Damian Lillard get- ting back on scoring track with 32 points, and Meyers Leonard adding 13 points and 13 rebounds. "We wanted to make a statement to our fans — don't get swept," Leon- ard said. "Now (we) go on to Memphis, continue to fight and make this a se- ries ... which I truly believe we will." APBasketballWriter Brian Mahoney in New York and AP Sports Writers Anne Peterson in Portland, Oregon, and Teresa Walker in Memphis, Tennessee contributed to this report. Tipoff FROM PAGE 1 the highest-paid employ- ees. The National Hockey League also has tax-ex- empt status, but the Na- tional Basketball Associa- tion does not. Some members of Con- gress have criticized the NFL, which generates bil- lions in revenue, for being tax-exempt. "The owners have de- cided to eliminate the dis- traction associated with misunderstanding of the league office's status, so the league office will in the fu- ture file returns as a tax- able entity," said Robert McNair, owner of the Hous- ton Texans and chairman of the league's finance com- mittee. Team owners gave the league's finance committee and management council the authority to change the tax status at league meet- ings in March, Goodell said. "As a result, the commit- tees decided to eliminate this distraction," Goodell wrote. Goodell forwarded the owners letter to Reps. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., and Sander Levin, D-Mich. Ryan chairs the tax-writing House Ways and Means Commit- tee and Levin is the rank- ing Democrat. AP Sports Writers Ronald Blum and Howard Fendrich contributed. NFL FROM PAGE 1 ROSS D. FRANKLIN — THE ASSOCIATED PRESS FILE The National Football League is giving up its tax-exempt status. In a letter to team owners, Commissioner Roger Goodell said the league office and its management council will file tax returns as taxable entities for the 2015fiscal year.
