Aspartof11Daysof Round-Up, "Cooking with Bob" was hosted by Erin McCarthy of Cook, the store on Main Street in Red Bluff. Bob Tallman, one of the announcers at Red Bluff Round-Up visited with the attendees as we sampled the Bob Tallman barbe- cue rubs on tri tip, with a glass or wine or cold beer. Steve Joiner of Two Buds Barbecue had pre- pared and grilled the deli- cious beef with the rubs. Tallman is an eight- time recipient of the dis- tinguished PRCA An- nouncer of the Year Award. He is the voice of the Red Bluff Round Up. You would have enjoyed meeting him and listen- ing to his stories as he and Linda Rosser remi- nisced. The other announcer for the rodeo, Wayne Brooks was having a great time fending off a bevy of pretty young ladies from Red Bluff. From there we went to the Tehama County Cat- tlemen - Red Bluff Cham- ber of Commerce Round- Up Mixer in the remod- eled Reynolds Ranch & Farm Supply back area. Chad Bushnell and band were playing and people were dancing on the wooden floor dance area, while cattlemen and chamber bartenders were busy taking care of the thirsty crowd. Vic Woolery and crew had barbecued 150 pounds of tri tip which was sliced by Bob Lester and Bob Chaney for the beef fajitas the Tehama Co. CattleWomen had made. As we drove up and parked for the mixer, there was a fire engine with lights ablaze near the area where they were barbecuing. I asked if there had been a fire, but the Red Bluff Fire Dept. personnel said they were there with water, if it was needed. TheAssociatedPress DESMOINES,IOWA The dis- covery of bird flu on an Iowa turkey farm has raised seri- ous concerns that the poul- try-killing virus could find its way into chicken barns in the nation's top egg-pro- ducing state and rapidly decimate flocks that pro- vide the U.S. with its break- fast staple. Iowa is home to roughly 50 million hens that lay nearly one in every five eggs consumed in the country. The highly conta- gious H5N2 virus has not yet been detected in Iowa chicken barns, but it was confirmed Tuesday on a tur- key farm in northwest Iowa — marking the first occur- rence in the state of the vi- rus.
