Harvest Carnival a success at Bidwell By DANI SHULTS Special to the DN Bidwell Elementary's playground was the setting for VIBES, Volunteers Investing in Bidwell Ele- mentary School, parent group's 6th annual Harvest Carnival, Oct. 14. Families, teachers, stu- dents, and volunteers all worked throughout the day preparing for the night fes- tivities. As the cake walk spun in circles, children ran around with faces painted with Spi- derman, fairies, lady bugs and various characters. The raffle tent announced winners every 15 minutes and the grand prize of a $250 Visa card was the exciting moment of the evening. It was the opportunity for each student to throw a pie in the face of Principal Isaac Scharaga and not be sent to his office. They could also dunk him in the dunk tank without getting a pink slip. As the children danced around the playground with their cotton candy and prizes from game booths, the parent group enjoyed the success of their months of work that began before school even started. VIBES member Teri Downey and Stacy Shank who have been with the parent group from its begin- ning have had the opportu- nity to see how the success of the nonprofit group has grown and how Bidwell School's students, teachers, and school environment has benefited from the parent group's efforts over the Courtesy photos by Dani Shults VIBES members Meeshell Ferreira, Cara Antolin and Mandy Denny. "The feeling here is so years. Every annual carnival is completely dedicated to the spring field trips for the stu- dents. When that time of the year comes, the kids are so excited that excitement spreads to the teachers and parents as well. VIBES member Cristin Mireles, along with several other parent volunteers, decorated the carnival with scarecrows, harvest colors, leaves, nuts, and fall themes. uplifting," said one VIBES parent. As the dancing, laughter, and music continued throughout the evening the parents of Bidwell Elemen- tary's students thanked the parent group for a wonder- ful evening. The biggest thank you goes back to the families without whom, the carnival wouldn't be so successful. Thank you families for supporting, showing up, and taking the time and effort to show your appreci- ation for your children's school. VIBES next event will be "The Christmas Store" where the students are invit- ed to come shop for a gift for their family while enjoy- ing cookies and hot choco- late. This year's Christmas store will be accompanied by a cookie contest. The holiday kick-off will welcome Santa for photos and everyone will be welcomed with season greetings.
