8B Daily News – Friday, October 28, 2011 Humanist Society to offer healthcare presentation At 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6, at the Redding Library Forest Harlan, President of the Butte County Health Care Coalition (BCHCC), will present an analysis of the recently enacted Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. He will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the new law as it relates to our ongoing health care crisis, compare the state of healthcare before enact- ment and afterwards, and describe the pressures for reform and the method of passing the law. Special emphasis will be placed on how advo- cates for a universal healthcare system were system- atically excluded from the debate and how that influ- enced the outcome. A pathway for further reform of healthcare will be described in the form of an "Improved Medicare for Residents are being encour- aged to apply for a number of Red Bluff commission seats that will open at the end of the year. The following vacancies will occur Dec. 31: • Planning Commission — Two 3-year appointments which will expire Dec. 31, 2014. The Planning Commission meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month beginning at 5:15 p.m. in the Red Bluff City Coun- cil Chambers. • Parks & Recreation Commis- sion — One 1-year student repre- sentative appointment which will expire Dec. 31, 2012 and one 3- year appointment which will expire Dec. 31, 2014. The California Fair University hosts All Majors Career and Internship Fair The Chico State Career Center will host its fall All Majors Career and Internship Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2, in the BMU Auditorium. Representatives from a variety of employers such as the National Park Service, Landacorp, Peace Corps, Boys & Girls Club and Tar- get will attend the Career Fair to recruit students for internships and full-time career positions. Students who are not currently seek- ing full-time positions or internships are also encour- aged to attend the fair and talk with employers about the job market and gain information about future openings. "We are particularly excit- ed about the variety of employers for this year's career fair," said Jamie Starmer, Career Center director. "We've got tech employers, government employers, non-profits and those looking to hire in the area of engineering, sales, consulting, construction management, law enforce- ment and social services. And we've got our share of sustainability-oriented com- panies. It's a really nice line- up this year." Starmer said he expects approximately 1,000 stu- dents and over 60 employers to attend the fair.
