Her name is Dawn Rettagliata, and she works at McGee's mini mart in Desert Center. For the past several years, she has been collecting items to put into the boxes that are sent to the troop units adopted by Opera- tion Hero Comfort here in Quartz- site, along with money to help with the postage. She has made many trips to Quartzsite to bring all kinds of goodies for the troops (her husband likes to shop for them), and has brought thousands of dollars in items and postage money since she first started. Dawn has also involved the Desert Center School at Eagle Mountain in having their students help by writing letters, poems and drawing pictures for the troops. Operation Hero Comfort goes over there every year and treats the students to a root beer float party for their participation. Hundreds of these cards and letters have been sent with the packages for the past several years, and the troops who receive them are truly grateful for the kids' thoughtfulness. Thanks to Dawn and her hus- band, and to the students at the school and everyone who donates to the troops, we are able to send out several boxes each month to the 5 adopted units we have so far. More units will be adopted as we get the names. Cactus Sale Success The fundraiser for Hi Jolly Cem- etery was a huge success! Shop- pers found cactus plants for their gardens and homes at the Cactus Sale held on Saturday, October 1st. Quartzsite Bakery owner, Dee Sheehan, took care of watering the plants during the summer for the event. Cactus plants were donated by many residents for the first Cactus Sale! The group of volun- teers helped shoppers with iden- tifying the plants and answering questions. The Hi Jolly Board and their vol- unteers worked hard to make this event such a success! Great job, everyone! Recycle... it all adds up! Recycle your empty inket cartridges and used cell phones! Help raise funds for the local Arizona Centennial celebration!
