Callie Miller broke a 39-39 tie with a 3-pointer with 20 seconds left and Tayah Ranney iced the game with her dribbling and a pair of free throws. Ranney finished with a game- high 17 points. Corning had led after the first quarter, but Central Val- ley's high-low game helped the Falcons pull out in front. Caitlyn Braden had 10 points and Katana Matrina eight for the Falcons. Corning rallied back midway through the third quarter to take a 26-25 lead. That led to a highly competi- tive final 12 minutes. The game stayed tied at 39-39 for multiple possessions before Miller broke through by knocking down the 3-pointer. Central Valley would steal a Corning inbound pass, but missed the front end of a 1-and-1 free throw situation. Corning couldn't control the rebound and it rolled out of bounds with possession going to Central Valley. The Lady Cardinals rode the hot shooting of Bay- lie Fryar, who tripled three times in the second half and finished with 11 points and eight rebounds. Kaylie Shoemaker added 11 for Corning, and Gates Fears had eight points and nine re- bounds. Emerie Eller had five points and Whitney Armstrong had four points for Corning. Right-hander Jake Peavy agreed to a two-year, $24 million deal, filling the gap- ing hole in the rotation. Peavy's deal, like the two-year agreement with Sergio Romo, is pending a physical. Both deals are expected to be finalized and announced early next week. By then, the Giants could also have a replacement for Pablo Sandoval. They have zeroed in on Marlins third baseman Casey McGehee, per multiple reports, but a team official said Friday night that a deal is not done. The Giants made the rota- tion their priority this offseason, followed by third base. Peavy will slide in alongside Madison Bumgarner, Matt Cain, Tim Hud- son and Tim Lincecum. The staff has insisted all offseason that Lincecum will enter the 2015 sea- son as a starter, but general man- ager Bobby Evans said the club isn't necessarily done shopping for pitchers. The Giants have been a front- runner for right-hander James Shields and former Cy Young win- ner Max Scherzer remains on the market, albeit it at an asking price that is probably a non-starter for the reigning World Series champi- ons. Ryan Vogelsong is still seek- ing a deal, too. "We go into the offseason try- ing to put together the best that we can at every spot," Evans said on KNBR.
