The second-seeded Warriors (6-5, 4-2 South) received an- other star performance from quarterback Al House, who ran his way to six touchdowns against the visiting No. 3 Tim- berjacks (8-3, 4-2 North) in the first round Northern Sec- tion playoffs. Koleby Potter added two rushing TDs, William Gentry ran back a kickoff return for a 75-yard TD and Elijah Gash glided through Hayfork's de- fense for 58-yard rushing TD with about six minutes left in the fourth quarter to give the Warriors a 63-46 lead. House, a junior who played in his first playoff game Sat- urday, said he was surprised the Warriors did so well, but also expressed confidence go- ing forward. "We worked really hard the whole week, and I was just re- ally happy at how everybody did their jobs and I'm really proud of everybody," House said. The Warriors next face top- seeded Redding Christian (11- 0, 6-0 North) on Friday. "I think we're going to win," House said. With as elementary of a for- mula as the Pleasant Valley High football team could have asked for, the Vikings now hope they can simply keep adding on the wins. PV gave up minus-19 rushing yards and Trent Darms threw three touchdown passes as the Vikings secured a postseason matchup against Oroville with an overwhelming 62-7 victory over Red Bluff on Friday night at Asgard Yard. Darms completed just 5 of his 6 pass attempts for 100 yards, but three went for scores: A 54-yarder to Aman Williams, a 13-yard strike to Ryan Steindorf and a 10-yard connection with junior varsity call-up Max An- derson, who made his first catch and first score of his varsity ca- reer in his debut. Before 7 full minutes were off the clock, the Vikings (8-2, 3-2 Eastern Athletic League) had a 21-0 lead, kicked off by Ethan Nash's 10-yard scoring run at 11:05 and a 9-yard touchdown pass from Brandt Hughes to Shane Urrutia. Cyland Leitner added a 3-yard TD run on the last play of the second quarter, and Jordan Cooley, Hughes and Zariel Torres all added scoring runs of their own in the rout. Leitner led the way for the Vi- kings on the ground, pacing PV with 83 rush yards on 14 carries, and Cooley provided 56 yards on a night the Viking defense over- shadowed much of what the of- fense was able to accomplish. It did so by plugging up the run game of the Spartans (2-8, 1-5), who lost their fifth straight and, for the fifth straight game, failed to either score more than seven points, allow fewer than 42 or a combination or both. PV's heading the other way, and that means a date with Oro- ville, 53-6 winners over Las Plu- mas on Friday night. The teams did not meet in the regular sea- son. Once a comfortable lead was established — and it happened quickly — the Vikings reached deep into their reserves to move the ball. Eleven different PV players got at least two carries, with Ben Savercool and Jhun Bungay pacing the rushing at- tack in the second half, and six different Viking receivers caught passes from a combina- tion of Darms and Hughes. The latter went 3 of 5 for 62 yards and a touchdown pass. Ander- son, the sophomore call-up, had two catches for 53 yards, one yard shy of the team lead, but his second catch — a nifty snag on a delayed corner route that saw him fight back to the inside against coverage, get his feet in PREP FOOTBALL PVwins,earnsNo.3seedinplayoffs PV62,REDBLUFF7 Up next: Northern Section play- offs, TBA. Corning finished the regular season 6-4 and was 3-2 in the NAL. On Saturday the Cardinals were given the No. 5 seed and a road trip to rival Orland Nov. 14 to begin the Northern Section Di- vision-III playoffs. It's the second straight year Or- land and Corning will meet in the playoffs. A year ago Corning topped the Trojans in the regular season, only to fall 13-6 in the playoffs. Orland won 21-7 at Corning Oct. 3 earlier this season. Orland finished the season 9-1, with their lone loss coming to top seed Sutter (10-0). Sutter, which is in the mix for a state bowl game, hosts No. 8 Wheatland (4-6). The other half of the bracket is made up of four NAL teams as No. 6 Anderson (4-6) visits Lassen (7- 3) and No. 7 Yreka (6-4) is at No. 2 West Valley (8-2). In Division-II, Enterprise (9-1) and Chico (8-2) earned first round byes. Enterprise has the top seed and will play the winner of No. 5 Para- dise (6-4) at No. Shasta (7-3). Chico gets the winner of No. 6 Oroville (4-6) at No. 3 Pleasant Valley (8-2). PREP FOOTBALL Corning upset at Yreka Start playoffs at Orland By Janie Mccauley The Associated Press SANTA CLARA Jim Harbaugh had an ease of sorts about him again, perhaps from a potentially season-saving overtime win on the road at New Orleans, or the fact that defensive lineman Ray McDonald's domestic violence case has been resolved without charges being filed, allowing ev- eryone to move forward at last. It might have been a combina- tion of both. Then, there's star linebacker Aldon Smith, who has served his nine-game suspension for vio- lations of the NFL's substance- abuse and personal-conduct pol- icies and will begin practicing again this week. The star pass rusher is likely to play in some capacity Sunday at the New York Giants. Harbaugh, who had yet to speak with McDonald early Mon- day afternoon, said everyone can learn from the situations sur- rounding McDonald and Smith — and that he can have a role in player conduct. "As an organization and as a coach I think it is proper to ad- vise, to educate. I think we do that as a team," Harbaugh said. "We continue to look for ways to send the message of good conduct and strive for 100 percent good con- duct. We want to have that. We haven't had that, we want to get there." Also improving Harbaugh's mood, 2013 All-Pro NaVorro Bow- man could begin practicing for the first time in the coming days.
