SECRET WITNESS 529-1268 A program of Tehama County Neighborhood Watch Program, Inc. Setting it straight –––––––– It is the policy of the Daily News to correct as quickly as possible all errors in fact that have been published in the newspaper. If you feel a factual error has been made in a news story, call the news department at 527-2153. Senior Menu Observations in Tehama County Several areas of comment have been made by readers of Daily News columns and news throughout the county. Recent comments toward columnist’s statements can be reminders about things we say in our writing. The truth is that nearly every- one on this earth manages to put a foot in their mouth at one time or another. The fact is, should we be reminded of our comments toward others, acknowledging mistakes or mistaken comments are an opportunity for us to apologize and learn from our errors. Human beings from every area of work have been known to say or print something that has not been well thought out. Most of us are beginning to regu- larly state that our country, state, town or county is presently in “hard eco- nomic times.” In looking at prices going up and income going down we face concern as we juggle the budget to make ends meet. There are still those who argue back and forth as to which of our country’s leading sides, Democ- rats or Republicans are going to dig us out of the scary economic dungeon. Some citizens are radical; others have just plain given up and hopefully some of us are hanging on to financial adjustments we have had to make. Those of us who are middle income, low income or no income face challenging times. Many of us are of an age that we can remember the years of depression that our parents faced. In spite of the hardships that many Tehama County Citizens are facing, we must all recognize our own situations and those of others who are struggling daily. Recently there have been a number of citizens concerned about the limited staff of Red Bluff Police Department. We know that at least one staff member has left. There is local advertisement for a new officer. In addition to citizens having a hard economical time there are those citizens who need the attention of local officers. Some people have suffered the theft of important items; others have been assaulted or abused. Caring and complete inspection of crimes, robberies and physical harm, need the connection of caring police officers. I was pleased to see that the Caber- net Apartments staff is planning a National Night Out to honor and include the presence of police at their event. It is so important that citizens of Tehama County connect with the Police Department to learn about the help that is available. The importance of knowing how to deal with unwar- Carolyn Barber ranted actions and how to protect our- selves and our children from crime is of great importance. It is reported that the rate of calls for police service is high and often difficult for officers to attend citizen meetings. Every effort to have a police officer attend such meetings is of great impor- tance. Maintaining a positive attitude in hard times is dif- ficult! Being safe in hard times is an effort that must be made. Looking for solu- tions and tightening our belts is required. Staying cheerful is not always easy but is very productive to ourselves and those around us. “Human relationships are primary in all of living. When the gusty winds blow and shake our lives, if we know that people care about us, we may bend with the wind…but we won’t break."
