The free recycling col- lection cart rental is ideal for local events such as a school fair, family reunion, birthday bash, wedding re- ception, anniversary cele- bration, fundraiser, tour- nament and community of faith gatherings. As fun as festivities are, post event cleanup is time consuming and more of- ten than not, unpleasant. Events generate a lot of unwanted materials in its wake resulting in dump- sters full of bottles, cups, flyers, food scraps and more stuff to be disposed. A large amount of these materials are not waste at all, but resources worth collecting for recycling. A little bit of pre-event plan- ning can ease cleanup and keep valuable recyclables from ending up in the Te- hama County Landfill. Common recyclables from events include plas- tic, glass and aluminum beverage containers, card- board, food cans, jars and trays and paper. To receive free recycling cart event rentals call the agency at 528-1103. A sim- ple request form is to be filled out and returned to the Agency two weeks prior to the event date. The form and more waste re- duction tips are posted on www.tehamacountyland- fill.com. For events held in Corn- ing, call Waste Manage- ment for event recycling options at 824-4700. Whiskeytown National Recreation Area has nu- merous healthy riparian zones. Riparian zones are critically important be- cause they store and pu- rify water, reduce dam- age from floodwaters, and provide habitat for wild- life and people. Unfortu- nately, riparian zones can be threatened by human influences. Join a ranger for fun hands-on activities at Brandy Creek. These activities will re- late to water quality test- ing, watersheds, macroin- vertebrates and how hu- mans can help protect riparian zones. The program will run Tuesdays from 10:30 a.m to 12:30 p.m. through Labor Day. Meet at the Brandy Creek Beach en- trance, in the dirt park- ing lot near the restrooms. The program is limited to the first 15 visitors and is directed towards fami- lies with children. Participants must be able to navigate uneven terrain, as the program will take place along Brandy Creek. For questions call (530) 242-5154.
