The vision is that all youth will go to school every day, excel in all class work, read and write at grade level or above, have access to rigorous course work, have a smooth transition from middle school to high school, graduate from high school prepared to go to college, have equal access to college, be competitive in the workplace and become productive citizens. One way that Mind Over Matter makes sure the vision becomes a reality is the Teen Explosion Conference. The Teen Explosion Conference returns to Fayetteville for it's 4th annual appearance. The conference is for students in middle and high school who reside in Cumberland, Hoke, Harnett and Robeson counties. The organization partners with businesses, colleges and community agencies in the Sandhills region of North Carolina. The conference will help students plan for a successful school year and provide skills for academic success. The goals of the Teen Explosion Conference program, according to the official back-to-school incorporated website are to bridge the gap between local businesses and youth to make school success and critical workforce development skills relevant to youth, provide an annual Back-to-School learning event for youth in the Sandhills region of North Carolina that empowers youth to be successful in school, empower teens to embrace personal school achievement and life beyond high school by linking teens to real-life opportunities to meet local business owners and local college admissions representatives and to build a research-based community model based on feedback from teens, parents, community agencies, and businesses that meet the unique needs of youth. The conference will take place Saturday, Aug. 2, at Westover Recreation Center from 10 a.m until 2 p.m. The price of registration is $25. You must be teen age and up. You can register for the event at back2schoolinc.org and select the "CLICK HERE TO REGISTER" link on the page. The program will highlight interactive learning workshops, thought-provoking discussions, explore exhibits featuring the latest information to prepare teens for workforce and college readiness skills, as well as business experts who will share information on the importance of education. Education is just as important now more than ever because of how our economy works, and for these students to learn as much as they can on the subject, is imperative. Back-to-School, Inc. was established as a result of the need to provide educational activities during the summer months. A community-based initiative, Back-to-School Teen Explosion Conference is, after three years of providing the conference, is desinged to support students during the summer months to decrease summer learning loss.
