The City-County Joint Appearance Commission is made up of members from Cumberland County and the nine municipalities in Cumberland County, including Fayetteville. Nominations must be submitted by June 1. The commission will review all nominations and select award recipients, who will be honored at a summer awards ceremony. Nominations are being accepted in the following categories: • Best Existing Single-Family Residential Property • Best New Single-Family Residential Property • Best Existing Multi-Family Residential Property • Best New Multi-Family Residential Property • Best Existing Non-Residential Property • Best New Non-Residential Property • Best Revitalization of a Residential Property • Best Revitalization of a Non-Residential Property • Best Housing Development or Neighborhood • Best Residential Landscaping Project • Best Non-Residential Landscaping Project • Best Residential Green Project • Best Non-Residential Green Project • Best Restoration of a Historical Property • Best Neighborhood Entrance/Community Gateway To obtain a nomination form, call the City of Fayetteville Development Services Department at (910) 433-1612 and request that a form be mailed to you. You can also download the form at www.cityoffayetteville.org/AppearanceAward/ or fill out the form on the website. ICL Now Accepting Applications The Institute for Community Leadership (ICL) is now accepting applications for its 11th year. The ICL is a joint community effort designed to provide local citizens the opportunity to participate in activities leading to community leadership. The City of Fayetteville and Cumberland County are included in sessions that teach students about community issues and opportunities for service. The ICL also facilitates sessions with non-profit service agencies, arts and cultural agencies and schools and colleges to showcase organizations in the community and give citizens the opportunity to interact with community leaders. Benefits of participating in ICL include: Developing your opportunities to participate in key community decisions, discussing local issues and solutions with community leaders, finding volunteer leadership positions that best fit your interests, building relationships with others who are committed to self-and community- betterment and polishing your leadership abilities. For citizens interested in applying to the 11th year of ICL, there are several requirements, which include: Completion of an application, registration as a Cumberland County voter, sincere commitment to serve the community, agreement to attend each session and willingness to pursue an appointment to a governmental or community board or commission or other community leadership role. An ICL promo video will air on FayTV7 through the month of June, encouraging citizens to enroll in the 2014 ICL class. The promo video can also be viewed on www.faytv7.com, the City's YouTube website. The deadline to apply for ICL is Friday, July 11. To apply, citizens can log onto www.leadership4us.org. Strickland Bridge Road Bus Stops Nearing Completion The Strickland Bridge Road Bus Stops Project is nearing completion. The project will accommodate the new No. 10 Strickland Bridge Road bus route, operated by the Fayetteville Area System of Transit (FAST). The project work consists of demolition of six-inch vertical curb and existing driveway apron and installing concrete pads and sidewalk. Additional work includes adjusting the water meter and installing curb and gutter, ADA wheelchair ramps and sod for a total of four bus stop locations along Strickland Bridge Road. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of the month. Lanier Construction Company of Snow Hill, N.C. is the project contractor. Additionally, FAST will begin service on the new No. 10 Strickland Bridge Road route on Monday, June 2.
