These ideals of Scholarship, Character, Service and Leadership remain as relevant today as they were in 1921. Now, more than 75 years later, the National Honor Society (NHS) has become a prestigious organization, ranking high among administrators, faculty members, students, parents and residents of the school commu- nity. Its reputation for excellence is the result of years of commitments on the part of everyone involved. Through NHS Chapter Service ac- tivities, members maintain and extend the qualities that won them their selections. Membership is both an honor and commitment. “We strive for the best, we strive for excellence and we have the greatest students,” said Scholars’ Academy Principal. “Within our school is the National Honor Soci- ety members; I call them the soul of our school, for this group of stu- dent leaders will have an impact on the school and the community that is unbelievable!” National Honor Society is a mem- ber of the Character Counts! Co- alition. Through this activity, the society supports and recommends the use of a multi-faceted defi ni- tion of character known as the “Six Pillars of Character.” A person of character demonstrates the follow- ing six qualities: respect, respon- sibility, trustworthiness, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
