By Joseph Shufelberger jshufelberger@chicoer.com @JShufelberger on Twitter ChiCo » The final score hardly mat- tered. The bottom line was all about having fun with current friends and former foes. In that way, everyone succeeded Sunday at the 19th annual North - ern Section All-Star basketball games, but perhaps no one had as much fun as Liberty Christian High senior Joseph Lynch and Oro - ville's Derrek Gordon. Both surpassed the individual scoring record of 33 points with Lynch's 38 points, propelling the North to a second-half rally for a 115-111 victory Sunday night at Pleasant Valley High. Lynch had 28 points after half - time, fueling the North comeback and earning him the Mitchell Pad- ula Most Valuable Player award. Gordon, who won the halftime dunk contest by jumping over his 5-foot-5 girlfriend Taneya Jenkins, finished with 34 points, also sur- passing the 33 points that Wheat- land's David Wilson had in the 2009 game. The North also won the girls game 90-77 as the North's size up front was simply too much for the South. Lassen's Mikailia McClure- Bustamante had a game-high 15 points to take the Padula MVP award. Enterprise's Jordan Kim - brough had 14 points, and Mercy's Jessica Curl had 13. Pleasa nt Va lley 's McKena Barker and Willows' Ally Brun - ner each had 13 points to pace the South girls. The games, in their 19th year, pit the section's best seniors against one another in a contest using col - lege rules. And the games' goal is fun. That showed with Gordon dueling with Lynch and Foothill's Grant Smith in a tit-for-tat 3-point shooting con - test. The surge started with Cousins saving the ball along the baseline and slinging a pass to McCallum, who in turn found Ben McLemore sneaking in behind the defense for an alley-oop dunk. There were two more dunks during the spurt, one by Cous - ins right after Alexis Ajinca had missed a tomahawk jam attempt on the other end. New Orleans maintained a sin - gle-digit lead for the rest of the quarter, going into halftime ahead 55-53. nBa Cousins, Kings flap past Pelicans With so many players out for games at a time due to a mul- titude of injuries, the Golden State Warriors' playoff berth may be threatened. nBa The Warriors trudge on despite team injuries FUll sTORY On page B2 Mercy hosts los Molinos at 1 p.m. today in the soball version of the little tehama Shootout. red bluff travels to enterprise for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. SoFtBall Los Molinos soball travels to Mercy red bluff is scheduled to host the Hornets for a 4 and 7 p.m. baseball doubleheader today. at 3:30 p.m. the Spartans tennis team is at enterprise and Corning's tennis travels to Central Valley.
