TExAs AlphA AccolAdE K nowing SigEp as a fraternity that valued and embraced individuality, Mark Johnson '82 was eager to see the experience his son, Cameron '16, would have when he chose to join Texas Alpha his freshman year. "My time as a SigEp was great preparation for the real world," said Mark. "It was a middle ground where you could start to figure out life's ups and downs while learning more about yourself. At the same time it was a chance to bond with other brothers who were going through some of the same life challenges." Cameron saw these relationships while he was growing up, watching his dad's lifelong SigEp friendships carry on throughout the years. "I knew I wanted to be a part of a fraternity after seeing my dad's experience," said Cameron. "Seeing Cameron become a member brings back so many memories," said Mark. "I love seeing my son experience the same things I did. We have always been close, but now we are even more so. I'm looking at him as a man growing up right in front of me." For Cameron's part, the opportunity to share a fraternal bond with his dad has allowed him to see a new side of his father: watching Mark reminisce and seeing his own friendships take on the qualities of his father's relationships. With Cameron as a member, Mark has found this as an opportunity to re-engage with SigEp, recently becoming a member of the House Corporation. This new role gives him the chance to evaluate the active chapter first-hand. "It's wonderful seeing the chapter so strong. They're doing well with lots of man power, leadership positions on campus, and a great GPA. All of the fraternity brothers I've met have been wonderful, accomplished, well- rounded men." "It's amazing to know that alumni still want to help and contribute to the chapter," says Cameron. "They want us to have the same experiences they did." Mark and his wife, Laura, a former SigEp Golden Heart, make their home in Houston. Cameron has two sisters, Morgan (also a Golden Heart) and Paige. At Texas Alpha we take great pride in the type of young men who are chosen to join our organization. Since its inception in 1930, Texas Alpha has made a profound effort to target well-rounded individuals who will represent this fraternity with dignity, just as those who have come before us did and continue to do. Texas Alpha boasts an illustrious alumni group that is truly indispensable to the success of the fraternity, in large part due to their role in the recruitment process. This process is taken very seriously by our recruitment team and the chapter as a whole. I believe recruiting quality young men will ensure another outstanding class and I know that we will continue to be the best fraternity on campus with next year's incoming members. With that said, I greatly appreciate contact information for any potential new members. Thank you for your support of Texas Alpha.
