sigMA phi Epsilon in memoriam Edward r. Kennedy '47 of Midland, Texas, entered Chapter Eternal on March 11, 2013. During World War II, Edward served in the U.S. Army Infantry in France, where he received a Purple Heart. After the war he received his master's degree in geology. He worked for Argo Oil Company and became an independent geologist in 1962. His innovative and prolific geological ideas and work were instrumental in the discovery and development of numerous Cherry Canyon and Bell Canyon oil fields in the Delaware Basin of west Texas and southeast New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Blix Mary Pate, in 1975. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Margaret, and his daughter, Blix Ann. On January 27, 2014, the active chapter and a large turnout of alumni celebrated a memorial service for one of our oldest and well-known brothers. Marcus Hale "goldie" goldsmith '56 passed away after a brief illness on January 2 at the early age of 83. Goldie was known to many across decades and generations. He was always a staunch and enthusiastic supporter of Texas Alpha and held a deep and detailed knowledge of the brothers and events that have passed through our doors over the years. He always had the uncanny ability to recall facts about brothers from years past, as well as brothers he had just met. He will be truly missed as part of the Texas Alpha legacy. Brother Jeff Loomis '71 presided over the service with contributions from the active chapter and several alumni. Afterward, a reception was held at the Tavern. W. Hayden Wall '12 entered Chapter Eternal on March 1, 2014. He attended St. John's Episcopal School followed by Jesuit College Preparatory School, where he graduated in the top five percent of his class, earning numerous awards including National Merit Scholar. Hayden enjoyed a love for the outdoors and earned the rank of Eagle Scout with a Gold Palm. He had a faith that infiltrated the rest of his alumni uPdate life, serving alongside his youth group, particularly as they assisted in New Orleans after hurricane Katrina. Hayden earned a B.S. in petroleum engineering and worked for Endeavor Energy Resources as a production engineer. His hobbies included soccer, hunting, hiking, and camping. His passion for music was seen in the hours he spent playing the piano and guitar. Hayden is survived by his parents, Kathy and Grant, and his sister, Mackenzie. He is deeply missed by his SigEp brothers. James "Ash" Braband '13 passed away on March 3, 2013, at the age of 22. He was a graduate of Stratford High School in Houston. Ash was a gifted writer and talented musician working towards a communications major with plans for law school. He was a tender-hearted brother, a devoted son, and a loyal friend. He left behind his brothers, Kirby and Sloan, and parents, Sandi and Dexter. alumni neWS Herbert L. Brewer '47 is active in various oil-related societies and clubs. Blanton '53 worked as a real estate developer in Crested Butte, Colo., for 27 years. He and his wife recently moved to Princeville, Hawaii, and teach real estate in order to stay busy. Coppedge '71 keeps busy with the restoration of an airstream trailer and hunting. He and his wife, Susan, reside in Longview, Texas. E-mail: johncoppedge@ veopoint.com Kyle Britt Jr. '72 visited 52 U.S. national parks and is on a quest to visit all 59 by August of 2016, the 100-year anniversary of the founding of the world's first national park system. Fred Thomas '79 is the broker, developer, and retail specialist for Durhman & Bassett Reality Group in Austin, where he resides. Fred has two children, Brian and Paige. This club is one of the world's largest and includes five championship golf courses, 26 tennis courts, fitness center, water park, and spa, among other amenities. He and his wife, LaDonna, have two children, Austin and Casey. Outside of work, Patrick enjoys golf and family time. He recently became a grandfather for the first time. Their youngest child is a sophomore at the University of Texas-San Antonio. Patrick and his wife live in Houston, where he would welcome the opportunity to reconnect with his brothers.
