Friday, December 6, 2013 – Daily News 3A Community people&events Attitude calling Breakfast with Santa The Los Monlinos Elementary School Booster Club will be hosting a Breakfast with Santa Saturday at the Los Molinos VFW hall, 7980 Sherwood Ave. Breakfast will be served 8 a.m. to noon. The Santa plate is $5 and an elf plate is $3. A silent auction and boutique with fabulous items with be available consecutively. Santa will arrive at 8:30 a.m. Visits with Santa are free of charge and will continue until 11:30 a.m.. Each child that visits Santa will receive a photo, treat and a book. Other goings on are free crafts for kids and balloon animals. All proceeds will benefit The Los Molinos Elementary Booster Club. The club works year round raising funds to provide field trips for each grade level, honor roll and merit roll rewards for students and school improvements by hosting family friendly events. Boy Scout paper drive Corning Boy Scout Troop 5 will hold a newspaper drive Saturday, Dec. 7 and 14 in case of rain. Please put your papers on the curb by 9 a.m. the morning of the drive. Anyone living outside of the city must take papers to Specialized Fibers on South Avenue, just west of the railroad tracks. The Troop will use money earned to help with registration which has gone up this year $10 per scout and adult. Any questions, call 824-3240. Bird walk The Sacramento River Discovery Center Bird Walk for December will take place at the Red Bluff Recreation Area at 8 a.m. Saturday. Join Dr. Dahnke at the Center, 1000 Sale Lane, with your binoculars and bird books. While the weather guessers are not predicting rain or snow on Saturday, the weather promises to be crisp, cold or freezing, so dress accordingly and in layers. Reluctantly plugging it into the tape machine, I expected to eject it (and the ideas) immediately after the slack on the tape was absorbed. Instead, I became a fan of the old-time motivator from Yazoo City who postulated that health, wealth, and happiness are the natural results of treating others well and that attitude is essential in doing so. Years have passed, and unfortunately so has Mr. Ziglar, but I still remember vividly a scenario he used to illustrate how fluid is our perception. (I've altered the concept, but felt it important to give credit to its origin.) Picture rising on your "average" day, nothing exhilarating or dreadful is on the agenda. As you rub the sleep from your eyes and swing your bare feet from the softness of the bed to the hardness of the floor, using a one-to-ten scale, think about how you'd rate your attitude. Sure, some days barely merit a "one;" others are heavenly, generating a "ten." But — on the run-of-the-mill everyday — what ranking would you choose? (FYI, based on a longterm survey I conduct, the majority of respondents end up at 7.9.) Attitude locked in place; you interact in usual fashion with friends, families, and vendors. As the day fades into history, you retire, expecting to rise again tomorrow and repeat the process. Not meaning to cast our existence as mundane; but, it is most of what Rancho Tehama school fundraiser The Rancho Tehama Parent Teacher Group will be hosting a Bake, Book, Toy Sale and Pancake breakfast 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Rancho Tehama Recreation Hall. This will be an opportunity to stock up on some early Christmas shopping and support the Rancho Tehama Elementary School. The Pancake Breakfast will be served 9-11 a.m. and cost is $2. Midgett was also charged with felony brining a controlled substance into a jail or prison.
