All He expects of us is There are passages in that we stay in the game until Hebrews 4 and 10 in which the author says sin after baptism leaves no He catches and releases us. The most helpful illustration in the going back, and persisting in sin places one outside the Kingdom for which scriptures addressing that crossing over Christ once redeemed him. Jesus Himself from the state of sin to the state of grace says in Matthew 5 that if salt (us) loses its occurs in John 8 with the story of the saltiness it is nothing. But the Hebrews woman taken in adultery and dragged passages use sin in its Greek noun form; before Jesus in the Temple courts. As it is a no-brainer to see that there can be Jesus listens to the Pharisees' incompeno contact between a state of sin and a tence – they mis-read and mis-apply the state of grace. It should be just as much a Law in Deuteronomy 22 – and being no-brainer to see that repentance – turn- unable to certify themselves as the sinless ing back to face and re-focus on Jesus witnesses the Law requires – He says (in Christ – is all He has ever required to multiple albeit later places) they remain cross over from the state of sin into the in their sin even though they retreat after state of grace. The over-riding word being unmasked as hypocrites. What He against the Matthew passage is always waits for is those of us who are so hungry Jesus' other word that what is impossible to hang with Him that we will step across for men is possible for God; he who the line He has drawn in the dust of the abides in Christ will never be forsaken or Temple floor – sometimes known as the Line in the Sand. He waits on people so overthrown. One of the stories I told that so moved hungry for His company that they don't the estranged children of God was of the care who else they stand beside as long as bridesmaid who approached me at a wed- they can stand beside Jesus. The only unforgivable sin – the sin ding rehearsal years ago. She said she could not bear to be in church. VINA COMMUNITY CHURCH 5th & D Street • 839-2340 Pastor Larry Peterson • WORSHIP • Sunday 10:30AM & 6PM Deacon intern to serve at St. Peter's Episcopal Church Kathy Wallace, Deacon Intern, has joined the congregation of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, serving her internship through May 2014. Residing in Mt. Shasta, Wallace is currently in the process of becoming ordained. Her focus will be on facilitating service and care in the community beyond the doors of the church. Her work within the St. Peter's congregation will include leadership in Morning Prayer, preaching, and diaconal responsibilities. Along with priests and bishops, the role of deacon is one of the three offices to which people can be ordained in the Episcopal Church. Wallace was born and raised in the small town of Wharton, Texas. After attending the University of Texas, Austin, she married and had two children, Paul and Rachel. Following her divorce, she began work at Bank of America in 1977 as an appraiser. She relocated to Chico with her children and later to Dunsmuir. Her mother joined her, but found the climate near Mt. Shasta to be too harsh leading Wallace and her mother to relocate to Phoenix, Arizona, in 1993. Wallace returned to the banking industry at Bank One. With the passing of her mother from pancreatic cancer, Wallace's desire to be near her children lead her to Sacramento and later to Redding when grandson, Mitchell, was born in 1998. For 12 years she watched her grandson grow, along with granddaughter, Paige, who is currently taking the Bar Exam. "You will hear me talk at times about Alcoholics Anonymous," Wallace says. "I am a recovering alcoholic with 28 years of sobriety. AA saved my life." She still attends meetings and sponsors people on their own journeys. Wallace's journey took her back to Dunsmuir three years ago in which she purchased a 100-year-old Craftsman style house where she currently lives with Oliver and Bobby, her orange tabby cat and terrier-mix pound mutt. "I love it," she says. "I love the yard, the people, the river." Two years ago, Wallace enrolled in the School of Deacons, a program tailored to meet the needs of working adults preparing for service in several Episcopal dioceses. The School of Deacons meets on the campus of the Church Divinity School of the Pacific, the only Episcopal seminary on the West Coast, located in Berkeley, California. "I feel that everything that has happened in my life has been leading me to this work." Wallace says. "I am so looking forward to working with all of you this next year. And it's starting soon." St. Peter's Episcopal Church is located at 510 Jefferson Street, on the corner of Jefferson and Elm streets. For more information please contact 527-5205 or stpeters@sbcglobal.net. Visit their website at www.saintpetersepiscopal.org. St. Peter's welcomes all who seek a spiritual home and worship Jesus Christ in its mission to love and serve God, nurture one another in Christian love, worship, work, learn and pray together, and to minister the Lord's love to all people.
