As I gazed into the reflection, I q u i c k l y splashed water on my sleepy eyes hoping to Carolyn clear them. The image remained. I was beginning to question my mind. Yes, the woman in the mirror did look like my mother. Just as I was getting used to the vision, the woman faded away and I saw a young woman dressed in a beautiful black crepe dress with stunning beaded white daisies on the bodice. Dark brown hair adorned her head and complimented her dark brown eyes. Her gentle sweet smile drew me gently toward the mirror. Then it happened, a virtual slide show of pictures occurred across my mirror much like the photos I save into my computer. Next the mature young woman was shown with a handsome young man, they had a baby sitting between them. The picture of this same woman was shown Week of Aug. 19-23 Monday VEGETARIAN MENU Spinach Cheese Ravioli, Capri Vegetables, Luau Fruit Cup Tuesday Crab Cake, Green Beans, Pineapple Orange Juice, Wheat Roll, Apricots Wednesday Italian Delight, Brussels Sprouts, Bread Stick, Peaches Thursday Pulled Pork Sandwich, Marinated Vegetable Salad, Wheat Bun, Watermelon Friday Chicken Con Queso, Spanish Rice, Corn, Mango Medley Health Partnership meeting The Tehama County Health Partnership will meet 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday. Our vision is to develop a multi-disciplinary approach to addressing the broader determinants of population health. Barber with a girl and a boy holding each of her hands. The final picture showed again the elderly woman with gray hair sitting in a wheel chair. I was so taken in by the virtual images that played across my eyes and brain that I imagined hearing her say, "this is the best day of my life" as she gazed about from her wheel chair at her extended family on her Thanksgiving Day in her home. The slide show was over as suddenly as it appeared on my bathroom mirror. Lest readers begin to question the state of my mind I want to assure all that I have not totally lost it. I once heard that you would know you have aged when you look into the mirror and see your mother looking back at you. Well I consider that to have happened, the nice part was that I got the slide show to boot. During the holiday season memories often come to the forefront. Some memories are negative; many more can be of the positive variety. As I remembered my mother at many stages of life, my mental slide show took me back to the happy days when my mom was here on earth. Those were the times when I may not have shown the appreciation for her that I should have. They are sweet memories filled with the love she showered on my brother and me. Thank you Mother for one of the best days of my life, today when I looked into that mirror and saw you looking back at me. You did it again, stood by me just when I needed you most. Hope you are having the best time in heaven, I'll see you later. Carolyn Barber has been writing her column in the Daily News since 1992. It appears on Saturdays.
