The Knight Errant Page 4 Alumnus Shares His Support for the Raymond D. Galbreth Leadership Fund hen John Ziegler Jr., Louisiana Tech '01, began college, he only knew one person. His father encouraged him to participate in recruitment to meet more people. "The brothers at Delta Chi were genuine. They went out of their way to get to know me and took pride in the chapter. The relationships I made during my associate member process confirmed that I made the right decision." W John says his experience in the Fraternity has affected him for a lifetime. "I created bonds and friendships that have lasted over 15 years. I learned how to serve and how to lead. I could tell stories for days about my experience." DC The leadership experience he gained through Delta Chi was invaluable. "The Fraternity provided an atmosphere of structure, gave me responsibilities, and held me accountable. I find that Delta Chi gives its chapters a lot of autonomy to govern themselves at the undergraduate level, which makes all the difference. The formative leadership experiences I had with Delta Chi came from working with others as a team, making informed and sometimes tough decisions, and being held accountable for the group's actions." Those experiences and his understanding of the importance of leadership training are reasons why John supports the Foundation and the Raymond D. Galbreth Leadership Fund. "Supporting the Foundation allows Delta Chi to recognize the achievements of its undergraduate brothers through scholarships, recognition, leadership development, and other avenues. As undergraduates, all Delta Chis take an oath to support the 'Brotherhood of a Lifetime.' Supporting the Foundation helps us fulfill our oath and obligation taken years ago. Supporting the Raymond D. Galbreth Leadership Fund will help future generations of Delta Chi brothers enhance their leadership skills and grow our Fraternity. Ray was, and still is, a champion for Delta Chi and is responsible for so much of the Fraternity's success in the past 30 years. A gift to honor Ray's legacy and to promote leadership development is a win-win." John encourages others to give back to the Foundation simply because "It's your turn. As undergraduates we benefitted from those who came before us and gave so that we could prosper. Giving to the Foundation and the Galbreth Leadership Fund can be your way of giving back." John graduated Louisiana Tech with a bachelor's in English and history in 2001, a master's in business administration in 2003, and a bachelor's in civil engineering in 2010. He is the operations supervisor for Chevron Pipeline Company, supervising crude oil and liquid product lines in California's San Joaquin Valley. He lives in Bakersfield, California, and enjoys golfing, running, traveling, and reading. Foundation Established Galbreth Leadership Fund R aymond D. Galbreth, Missouri '69, supported Delta Chi for more than 35 years as a volunteer and as the Fraternity's longestserving Executive Director. His passion was to empower young men to become professional and societal leaders. The success of Delta Chi depends on the knowledge of its undergraduate leaders and their adherence to the values of our Fraternity. opportunities were provided to undergraduates so all our chapters and colonies would flourish for years to come. An investment in the leadership training programs of Delta Chi is the most direct way to improve the future of our organization. Funds will be drawn from this account when appropriate to help support leadership programs.  In recognition of Brother Galbreth's vision, his friends and colleagues established an endowment fund with The Delta Chi Educational Foundation to increase the capacity of existing leadership development programs and to support future initiatives. This fund was established in August 2012 during Delta Chi's International Convention. Galbreth dedicated his professional life to making sure leadership development www.dcef.com To date, more than 25 individuals have pledged approximately $130,000 to the Raymond D.
