The Knight Errant The Delta Chi Educational Foundation Summer 2013 "A"s' Academy THE FOUNDATION HAS SUCCESSFUL YEAR Creates New Undergraduate Giving Program T hank you, to all of the donors who supported Delta Chi via the Delta Chi Educational Foundation in 2012. As a result of your generosity, despite the difficult economic environment, the Foundation had one of its best years ever.  Every chapter and colony benefited from this as all "A"s were again invited to St. Meinrad, Indiana, for the Fraternity's intensive three-day leadership development program, the "A"s' Academy. The Foundation continues to be a significant contributor to the funding of this program. A majority of the educational portion of the January 2013 "A"s' Academy was funded by your gifts. Please consider supporting this program again this year. Delta Chi staff and facilitators huddle for an evening meeting to discuss the game plan for the following day. Positive investment performance benefited all of our accounts. Several that were near granting levels, or that had seen significant negative performance in 2008, are now in position to grant scholarship and other educational funds. The Foundation's Investment Advisory Committee worked closely with the board of directors and financial advisors to revise our investment and related financial policies in efforts to both protect your donations and maximize growth potential.  This spring welcomed the introduction of our first undergraduate giving program—the 1890 Society. It was rolled out at the "A"s' Academy and Regional Leadership Conferences with two specific goals. The first is to increase awareness of the Foundation and its programs among undergraduate Delta Chis. Too many undergraduates remain unfamiliar with the Foundation, failing to take advantage of the programs offered. Second, the Society is designed to promote a habit of charitable giving to Delta Chi. By starting young men giving $18.90 during their college years, we hope to continue this habit as they move on to careers and eventually into positions where their generosity will benefit future generations of Delta Chis. If the initial success of the 1890 Society is indicative of its future, Delta Chi's educational and scholarship programming will continue its positive momentum.  Academy attendees learning about the history of Saint Meinrad Archabbey with tour guide, Delta Chi Brother and Monk Fr. Anthony Vinson, Northwest Missouri '98. My excitement for the direction our Foundation is heading continues to grow. I see great things for the future of Delta Chi, and hope that you'll support the Foundation to aid Delta Chi and its chapters and colonies in achieving their goals.  Most fraternally, James M.
