The Delta Chi Educational Foundation Page 5 FOUNDATION OFFERS SCHOLARSHIPS TO UNDERGRADUATE INTERFRATERNITY INSTITUTE O ver the last four years, 36 Delta Chi undergraduate brothers participated in the Undergraduate Interfraternity Institute (UIFI) due to the financial support of Patrick Weber, Oklahoma '87. Brother Weber has committed to support the program for at least another five years. This year, the Foundation has once again been able to send nine undergraduates, representing seven different regions, to the UIFI. Those selected this year were Dustin Arvola, Tri State '15, Region V; Eric Hansen, Miami '16, Region VI; Jeremy Jones, Texas Tech '15, Region III; Miguel Labrador, South Florida '16, Region VIII, chapter "F" for the coming year; Timothy Melendez, Cortland '14, Region VII, chapter "A;" William Nash, North Alabama '14, Region VIII, chapter "A;" Luke Trotz, Johnstown '14, Region IX, chapter "B;" Daniel Wallace, Central Missouri '15, Region IV; and Michael Wiedle, Bowling Green '16, Region VI. Brother Weber's support has allowed undergraduates from all nine regions to attend the program. Each year, the Delta Chi Educational Foundation is able to offer nine scholarships, one per region on a competitive basis in each region. If a region has no applicant, that scholarship is then awarded to worthy applicants from regions that had more than one man looking for assistance. Dewrell, Troy State '95 Each scholarship covers the registration fee and provides a modest amount to assist with travel costs. In the past two years, the Fraternity has also contributed to the travel grant to make it even easier for worthy applicants to attend, especially if they need to fly to the workshop location in Bloomington, Indiana. Executive Committee Member Steven R. Michels, Marquette '87 The North American Interfraternity Conference's UIFI program is a five-day principle-centered approach to creating change within Greek communities. UIFI offers participants the opportunity to explore, define, and enhance their leadership skills, personal awareness, commitment to their fraternity or sorority, and grow to expect value-based action from themselves and those they lead. Lyle E. Sprinkle, Georgia Tech '96 Brother Weber sees UIFI as a first step in teaching Delta Chi undergraduates the skills necessary to become great chapter or colony leaders and throughout their lives. He appreciates that this program is available to all Delta Chis and is not restricted to specific chapter officers. He hopes that UIFI can inspire participants early in their Delta Chi careers to become better campus leaders. Those later elected "A" can then move on to another leadership training, the "A"s' Academy. Brother Weber's vision for UIFI is that one day each Delta Chi group will have a representative participate every year. Chad M. Wolett, Arizona State '94 For over eight years, Brother Weber has served on The Delta Chi Educational Foundation's Board of Directors. He has served as the Foundation's president and secretary and is an at-large member of the Executive Committee. He also is the Oklahoma Chapter's "BB" and president of Texas A&M's Alumni Board of Trustees. Brother Weber is a New Founder and member of the Order of the White Carnation. www.dcef.com Roy R.
