May 7 - 13, 2023 WHATS UP! T11 ries? It seems like the same voice, but it's been on so long and there are so many ver- sions that it would be unlike- ly. A: It is, in fact, Steve Zirnkilton doing the narration in the open- ing credits of all but one of the Law & Order shows (he didn't do "Law & Order True Crime" because it didn't really have an intro). This achievement might be less unlikely than it seems. After all, the intros don't change much from episode to episode or even season to season. So while he's had to record it fresh with each new version of the show — starting with the original series, "Law & Order," back in 1990, through the short- lived "Jury Duty," all the way through to the most recent one, "Law & Order: Organized Crime" — that doesn't actually equate to that much time in the recording booth. This means it's less of a struggle to keep the same narrator than it is to, say, keep the same detectives. Indeed, Zirnkilton's appetite for the work is so strong that he's taken other jobs that are just "Law & Order"-adjacent. See, for example, his recent gig doing a parody of the "Law & Order" intro for the Netflix com- edy series "Murderville," itself a parody of "Law & Order" and its fellow procedural crime dramas. Zirnkilton also did a very "L&O"-style intro for "Blood & Money," a new docuseries on CNBC that was created by "Law & Order" mastermind Dick Wolf. Q: Who's the actor who plays Artemis on "It's Al- ways Sunny in Philadelphia"? What else has she done? A: "It's Always Sunny in Phila- delphia" has never been truly creative with character names — main character Charlie is played by a guy named Charlie (Charlie Day, "The Lego Movie," 2014), and one of the most often- seen recurring characters is known only as The Waitress, be- cause she's a waitress. So it shouldn't be surprising to hear that Artemis is played by some- one named Artemis. The actor Artemis Pebdani has built a career as a go-to sup- porting star, and not just on sit- coms. Along with her recurring role on "It's Always Sunny," she's also played Susan Ross on 19 epi- sodes of "Scandal," and done voice roles on animated series "Big City Greens" and, more re- cently, "The Croods: Family Tree." But sitcoms really are her bread and butter. Though "It's Always Sunny" is by far her longest-running gig of this type, she's also recurred on hits such as "How I Met Your Mother," "Modern Family" and the oddball musical-com- edy series "Garfunkel and Oates." But her link to "It's Always Sunny" is more than just profes- sional. When she first audi- tioned for the show, back when it was still in the pilot stage, she was living with Mary Elizabeth Ellis, who plays the Waitress on the series and also happens to be married to co-creator Charlie Day. If so, will Matt Damon reprise his role as Bourne? A: It's possible that Holly- wood is finally forgetting about the forgetful assassin. After five movies since 2002, four starring Matt Damon ("Good Will Hunt- ing," 1997) in the title role, there are no current plans to continue with the Bourne franchise. That's not to say there isn't talk. For as long as Damon is working (and maybe longer), people will always talk about the future of the highly influential action series that launched with 2002's "The Bourne Identity." And why wouldn't they? In to- tal, the movies earned more than $1.5 billion at the box office, they changed the way fight scenes were filmed in blockbusters for decades, and they transformed Damon from a mid-budget-dra- ma star into a bankable leading man. And so in 2020, four years af- ter the most recent installment (2016's "Jason Bourne"), director Paul Greengrass was asked if there will be another. He said he didn't know for sure, but that he wouldn't be involved if there was. That's bad news, because Greengrass ("News of the World," 2020) is almost as close- ly identified with the series as Damon himself. He directed all but the first and fourth films, but more worryingly, Damon has said in the past that the only rea- son he returned to the franchise for the fifth movie was because Greengrass was involved. And so, with Greengrass say- ing he's out for a sixth, it's un- likely Damon would be in. But what about another one without Damon? They tried that with the fourth entry, "The Bourne Legacy" (2012), subbing in Jeremy Renner ("The Hurt Locker," 2008) as another super- assassin created by a similar government program. But while it was a decent hit for Universal, doubling its budget at the global box office, the reviews were not as encouraging. So it's less likely that the studio will go ahead with a different actor.
