T8 WHATS UP! December 11 - 17, 2022 BY RAYE SMITH TV Media WHAT'S NEW ON DISNEY+ "National Treasure: Edge of History" The hunt continues with the lat- est installment of the National Treasure franchise, the new, 10-episode series "National Treasure: Edge of History," which makes its debut Wednes- day, Dec. 14, on Disney+. When an enigmatic stranger gives 20-year-old Jess Valenzuela (Li- sette Olivera, "Total Eclipse") a clue to a centuries-old treasure that might be connected to her long-dead father, her whole life is turned upside down. As she and her friends follow a series of clues hidden in American arti- facts and landmarks, Jess's puz- zle-solving skills are put to the test as she races to unravel the mystery and, hopefully, learn the truth about her family's past. Di- rected by Mira Nair ("A Suitable Boy"), who also serves as an ex- ecutive producer on the series, "Edge of History" is written by Gabriel Llanas ("Supergirl"), Maura Milan ("Koreatown," 2011), John-Paul Nickel ("Just Add Magic"), Paola Villegas So- ruco ("The Call of the Void," 2018), Cormac Wibberley ("L.A.'s Finest"), Marianne Wib- berley ("National Treasure," 2004) and Dwain Worrell ("FBI: Most Wanted"). Reitman ("Happy!"), Armando Riesco ("The Chi"), Tommy Savas ("State of Af- fairs"), Dustin Ingram ("Good Trouble"), Darri Ingolfsson ("Dexter") and Salena Qureshi ("The Society") also star in the series. WHAT'S NEW ON PARA- MOUNT+ "The Game" - Season 2 It's time to get back in the game: the series revival of "The Game," premieres its second season Thursday, Dec. 15, on Para- mount+, with two new episodes. Episodes will air weekly on Thursdays thereafter. This "Girlfriends" spinoff series fol- lows a group of women who are all in relationships with profes- sional football players as it looks at modern Black culture through the lens of professional football and tackles contemporary issues such as racism, sexism and clas- sism head-on. Heading into the new season, the series' beloved characters face lots of new dra- ma and some big changes, and do their best to hold their rela- tionships together through the storm. Created for television by original series producer Mara Brock Akil, "The Game" Season 2 is directed by Peter O'Fallon ("UnREAL") and written by Akil, Alesia Etinoff ("Avant- Guardians"), Darryl Wesley ("The Upshaws") and new writ- er Sharde Miller. Wendy Raquel Robinson ("The Steve Harvey Show"), Hosea Chanchez ("Ma- jor Crimes"), Analisa Velez ("Sneaky Pete") and Barry Floyd ("Black-ish") star. WHAT'S NEW ON AMC+ "Litvinenko" Get to the bottom of it all with the four-part drama miniseries "Litvinenko," premiering Fri- day, Dec. 16, on AMC+. In 2006, former Russian KGB agent Al- exander Litvinenko, who turned to work for British and Spanish intelligence, became the first confirmed poisoning victim of lethal polonium- 210-induced acute radiation syndrome. In the 10 years fol- lowing his death, a team of de- termined Scotland Yard officers worked tirelessly to prove who was responsible for his death, leading to one of the most com- plex and dangerous investiga- tions in the history of the Met- ropolitan Police. This dramati- zation of the true story dives into the gritty details of the case, as the officers worked against all odds to put the file to rest. Directed by Jim Field Smith ("Criminal: UK"), the se- ries is written by George Kay ("Lupin"). The role of Litvinen- ko is taken on by "Dr. Who" star David Tennant, who stars alongside Mark Bonnar ("Shet- land"), Margarita Leviera ("The Deuce"), Neil Maskell ("Bull," 2021), Barry Sloane ("Long- mire"), Daniel Ryan ("The Bay"), Richard Pepper ("The Spanish Princess") and Estella Daniels ("Da Vinci's Demons"). WHAT'S NEW ON PRIME "Nanny" (2022) The American dream isn't al- ways what it seems, and Aisha (Anna Diop, "Titans") learns that lesson the hard way in the new psychological horror film "Nanny," premiering Friday, Dec. 16, on Prime Video. Re- cently emigrated from Senegal to New York City, Aisha is hired on to care for the child of an af- fluent couple, played by Mi- chelle Monaghan ("The Path") and Morgan Spector ("The Gilded Age"), from the city's upper east side. Hoping this job could be the fresh start she needs, Aisha's dreams are quickly dashed by the volatility of her new employers' home life. As the arrival of her own son to the country approaches, a violent presence begins to in- vade both her dreams and her reality. Directed and written by Nikyatu Jusu ("Flowers," 2015), the film also stars Sinqua Walls ("American Soul"), Rose Deck- er ("Mare of Easttown"), Leslie Uggams ("Dealpool," 2016), Ol- amide Candide-Johnson ("The Blacklist"), Jahleel Kamara ("Rise," 2022), Princess Ade- nike ("Suspicion"), Zephani Idoko ("The Unsettling," 2022), Mitzie Pratt ("#LoveMyRoom- ie"), Keturah Hamilton ("In the Defense Against Tyranny," 2020) and relative newcomer Stephanie Jae Park ("The Bless- ing"). Following a group of bad cops — meaning bad as in dopey and underperforming rather than corrupt — as they do a notably terrible job of protect- ing their small, backwater town, this oddball comedy follows the antics of the group, led by Chief Randall Crawford (Tom Kenny, "SpongeBob SquarePants"), as they (sort of) try to do their jobs. Heading into its final season, the series is gearing up to go out with a bang as the town's cast of characters get themselves into even more off-the-wall shenani- gans. Created for television by Roger Black and Waco O'Guin of "Brickleberry" and "Farzar," "Paradise PD" also voice stars O'Guin, Black, Sarah Chalke ("Scrubs"), David Herman ("Fu- turama"), Kyle Kinane ("Those Who Can't"), Cedric Yarbrough ("Reno 911!"), Dana Snyder ("Aqua Teen Hunger Force") and Grey Griffin ("The Loud House").
