"Baking It" returns this week for a second season on Peacock, but NBC will actually be the one to get things started with a spe- cial "Baking It" celebrity holiday edition airing on Monday, Dec. 12. The Amy Poehler-produced ("Parks and Recreation") baking competition proved to be a hit after debuting last year. It didn't hurt to have fellow "Saturday Night Live" alums Maya Ru- dolph ("Loot") and Andy Sam- berg ("Brooklyn Nine-Nine") as hosts for Season 1, either, though viewers reserved their highest praise for The Grannies — the judging panel composed of four comedically critical grandmoth- ers with decades of yuletide bak- ing experience. Rudolph is back as host, but this time, Poehler will serve as her co-host for Season 2. And for the celebrity edition, they've in- vited a few friends to "cele-bake" the holidays and take part in a friendly competition in order to "raise some dough" for their fa- vorite charities (baking pun courtesy of NBC and Peacock). The celebrities will present recipes inspired by their own family traditions: Kristen Bell ("The Good Place") will create Austrian Schaumrollen and Pickle Soup; Nicole Richie ("Making the Cut") will prepare Sticky Apple Cake; JB Smoove ("Curb Your Enthusiasm") will serve up Vegan Banana Pudding Cake; and Fred Armisen ("Port- landia") will take a shot at recre- ating his mother's recipe for Venezuelan Hallacas. NBC's "Baking It" holiday spe- cial will also pop up on Peacock beginning Dec. 12, the same day Season 2 (all of it) is made avail- able to stream. Then, the series' second sea- son will introduce a new batch of bakers who are competing in teams for the chance to win the "Best in Dough" title and a cash prize. The "bigger and batter" challenges, which were de- signed by Rudolph and Poehler themselves, will put the bakers' abilities to the test once more. And according to the news re- lease, the newest installment of "Baking It" promises to deliver "exploding cakes," "smashed bakes" and a season "booming with laughs."
