A farewell and thank you to previous House A farewell and thank you to previous House Director Casie Kolbeck, and an introduction Director Casie Kolbeck, and an introduction to Elise as the new House Director. to Elise as the new House Director. Behind every well-ran Chapter are the women who have stepped up to take on a role behind the scenes. For Elise Nietvelt, Beta Kappa '15, becoming Mu's business manager and house director was an incredible opportunity that she leapt at the chance to take. "Taking on this role was more than just becoming a house director," Elise shared. "It's implementing and exercising many different aspects of administration, working with students on various levels, and becoming the property manager of a 18,692-square-foot property. It's a job that allows you to learn and grow as you go." Before moving into the role of house director, Elise was in the hospitality industry. "While the two career paths were not identical, there were a lot of similarities," she said. "One of the reasons I enjoy this job so much is because no day is exactly the same." Living in and managing a house with up to 74 residents can mean new tasks to take on every day. Elise's day can be divided into office time, property walkthroughs, maintenance, landscaping, project management, hiring new staff, working alongside the board, and so much more. "It has been an incredible position to take on, with many challenges and far more rewards that I could have expected." A STRONG FUTURE At the moment, Elise's main goal is to continue to maintain the beauty and integrity of this historic property and home. "There are so many projects and ideas that have filled my head and those of the house directors before me, and slowly but surely, they are coming to life." Many new structural improvements, including replacing windows, updating bathrooms, and continuously encouraging environmentally friendly practices are just some of her plans. Elise is thrilled to have the opportunity to be a part of it all. HIGHLIGHTS OF MU CHAPTER "Recruitment weekend was by far my favorite experience at the Mu Chapter house," Elise shared. "The work that all the members put in leading up to the weekend, the songs and chants that were memorized, the dresses and smiles that I was able to see, it was incredible." Being surrounded by contagious energy while watching the women of the Chapter come together to work long hours and create an unforgettable experience for all the new members was magical. "It was amazing to experience a new Chapter's recruitment process and is one that I hope I'll be able to see many more times." Elise graduated from California State Polytechnic University and is from Southern California. "I grew up there with my sister, mom, and dad, and they have always been the most supportive, loving, and proud people in my life."
