W e celebrated sisterhood from June 23-25 with a convention primarily designed to inspire us, rather than instruct, after not having met in person since the 62nd Biennial Convention in 2018. Mu Chapter was well represented by chapter officers, advisory board, and corporation board members. The impressively organized event was held at the spacious, beautiful JW Marriott Desert Ridge in Phoenix, complete with a mobile phone app to guide us to each event. The National House Corporation Summit was on June 23. Part of our group participated in exchanges of ideas with other corporation directors from all around the country. The sessions included governing documents review, emerging trends, building sisterhood, outsourcing, financial management teams, and asset management. The evening event was a casual dinner that allowed us to converse with the spectrum of directors, ranging from those serving Chapters with only reserved meeting rooms to huge residential operations like Mu Chapter. What we found in common is our devotion to the values of Chi Omega. By June 24, the others in our contingent had arrived. The first business meeting was kicked off with an address by Gina Murphy, Pi '87, who credits her Chi Omega leadership opportunities for much of her professional success and ability to mentor others to reach their potential. Reports and bylaws amendments were presented in a smooth operation. We enjoyed sisterhood dinner with everyone that night, and attendees were encouraged to wear their college t-shirts. Saturday began with the model initiation of Ginny Fisher, Phi Delta '22, a legacy with a mother, grandmother, and aunts in Chi Omega. The beauty and meaning of this ceremony deeply touched us all. This was followed by the awards brunch that celebrated the talents of sisters and Chapters. The five speakers were accomplished alumnae whose lives have been guided by their Chi Omega experiences. The final business meeting included the presentation of the governing council that will guide our fraternity until the next convention. The concluding event was the elegant presidents' banquet, where the highest honors were presented. We were proud to see Julia Goswick '20 bearing the Mu flag in the Parade of Presidents. After convention, we reflected on our favorite aspects: the energy of the sisters, the model initiation, the presentation by Jan Langbein, Iota Alpha '68, on female safety, and learning from other Chapters that have had challenges how they endured and retained membership. We felt supported through connecting with other Chapter presidents, and we marveled at how well-run and forward-thinking our national organization is. Our wish is for every Chi Omega reading Mu News to have an opportunity to attend a convention and see that "Chi Omega, Yours Forever" is really true.
