2 UCW OCTOBER 5 - 11, 2022 WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM OCTOBER 6 FIELD OF SHOES FESTIVAL PARK The inaugural Field of Shoes event will honor victims of domestic violence, emphasize the seriousness of intimate partner violence, and make the com- munity more aware of available support services for military members and civilians. There will be a pair of shoes displayed representing each life tragically taken due to domestic violence. The Field of Shoes will be on display from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. The vigil will start at 5 p.m. OCTOBER 6 KIWANIS GOLF TOURNAMENT GATES FOUR The Cape Fear Kiwanis Club will host its annual charity golf tournament at Gates Four Golf and Country Club. The fundraiser is projected to raise thousands of dollars to benefit numerous local organizations, including The Boys and Girls Clubs of Cumberland County, Child Advocacy Center, CARE Clinic and Cape Fear Valley's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. This event for teams of four will include a grilled picnic lunch, a shotgun start, a beverage cart, and a steak dinner. Awards for closest to the pin, hole in one, and longest drive will be available. OCTOBER 8 THE MUSIC OF JOHN WILLIAMS HUFF CONCERT HALL METHODIST UNIVERSITY You don't have to go to a galaxy far far away to experience the iconic music of John Williams. Enjoy themes from your favorites – Star Wars, Harry Potter, Jaws, E.T., Catch Me If You Can, and many more – as the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra honors the master of film scores. This concert will be kicking off FSO's 2022- 2023 season. The performance starts at 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices range from $5 to $32. WALK TO REMEMBER WOMACK ARMY HOSPITAL As a way to remember babies who are gone too soon, the team at Womack Army Medical Center will be hosting their 20th Annual "Walk to Remember." This is part of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. This event is free and open to the Fort Bragg Community. Participants will meet up at the flagpole by the Womack Army Medical Center Reilly Road entrance. The meet-up will be at 5 p.m. and the walk will end around 6 p.m. The walk will be around 1 mile. OCTOBER 14 MUSIC & MIXOLOGY DIRTY WHISKEY CRAFT COCKTAIL BAR You're invited to an elegant evening of jazz and craft cocktails at Dirty Whiskey Craft Cocktail Bar. This special music and cocktail pairing experience will transport you to a New Orleans Speakeasy, where jazz is bumping and drinks are flowing. Your ticket includes access to this exclusive event, a cocktail tasting, and heavy appetizers. This is a fundraiser, and 100% of ticket sales will support the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra. OCTOBER 13 OCTOBER 7 FAPS WOOFSTOCK 2022 CAPE FEAR BOTANICAL GARDEN WoofStock is FAPS' largest fundraiser and is held annually at the Cape Fear Botanical Garden. This year's event will feature live bands, dinner, drinks, tons of swag for attendees to take home, and the opportunity to help the community's homeless animals find their forever homes. This event has a purpose — saving homeless cats and dogs. As the only licensed no-kill, nonprofit animal shelter in the area, FAPS relies solely on donations from people to help give deserving cats and dogs a second chance. They are committed to continuing this work until there are no more animals needing to be saved. This fundraising event is for adults 18 years of age and older. All of FAPS' other events are great for all ages. Although they are rais- ing money for pets, animals are not allowed to this particular event unlike their other FAPS events. OCTOBER 7 SHOPS N' HOPS CARNEVIL BAZAAR GASTON BREWING TAPROOM Join Gaston for a spooky night out at their second evening Shops N' Hops event that the whole family will enjoy. Shop from local vendors, discover new businesses featuring local artists, hand-crafted items, delectable treats, men's and women's boutiques, browse a collection of motorcycles, and enjoy kid-friendly, Halloween activities! The first Shops N' Hops raised $3,000 for FAPS. This time, they will benefit the Cape Fear Valley Cancer Treatment Center. Gaston Brewing Taproom is located at 421 Chicago Drive. For more information call 910-920-4071. OCTOBER 14 - 16 The Dogwood Fall Festival holds activities the entire family will enjoy! On Friday, we will begin in Festival Park and the Downtown Fayetteville with Downtown Hayrides, children's activities, and a selection of food trucks! On Saturday, activities will expand throughout Festival Park and the Festival Park Plaza Promenade with a wide variety of vendors and live music! Then on Sunday, we will continue with the Classic Car, Motorcycle, & Truck Show! This weekend of fun is not one you want to miss! Go ahead and put it on your calendar!
