In the midst of doing it, University of Arkansas football turned into a kind of national media darling, with commentators from coast to coast entertained by Pittman's leisurely, home-spun humor and his team's gritty demeanor. But the big question for the Razorbacks this fall is can they maintain or gain on the ground won last fall? Pittman addressed that very topic during his talk with former Razorback David Bazzel at the Little Rock Touchdown Club on Aug. 15. "I think the goal was to make the state of Arkansas proud of the team, and I don't really know what that is in wins and losses," Pittman told Bazzel. "I really don't. I want guys on Sunday morning to go, 'Hey, you see the Hogs?' and have something to brag about. "It seemed to me we won a whole lot of games fast, and so then when you do that the expectation kind of goes up as well." Indeed, SEC media projected the Razorbacks to finish third in the SEC West behind defending SEC champion Alabama and Texas A&M. Some analysts who cover the league consider the Razorbacks a darkhorse contender to challenge mighty Alabama atop the division. Pittman said the way to elevate into double-digit wins, which should translate into competing in the SEC West, begins with full-scale preparation to be better. "We have to become the best coaches that there are out there, and I have a great staff," he said. "To win more than nine games, there's so many close games and situational football we have to be very, very good at. "I'm talking about third and 1 and some things we didn't do very good last year. I'm talking about two-minute, which we did do well last year. I'm talking about four-minute, where we've got the lead and we need to complete the game. Those things are going to determine how many wins you have and taking care of the football." The Razorbacks return all of their 2,781 passing yards, 2,201 of their 2,961 rushing yards (74%) and 865 of their receiving yards (31%). Quarterback KJ Jefferson accounted for 2,676 passing yards, 21 passing touchdowns, a team-high 664 rushing yards and 6 rushing touchdowns. He is back for his junior year after flexing his dual-threat capabilities in offensive coordinator Kendal Briles' offense. "First of all, you have to have a quarterback that can lead you to that," Pittman continued on his list of items the Razorbacks need to rise.
