T22 WHATS UP! August 14 - 20, 2022 The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Now they're not sure how the president [Joe Biden] con- tracted COVID. I suspect he wished on a cursed monkey's paw for any "positive news." Got to be careful! According to CBS News, "brutal and dangerous tem- peratures are being felt from California to Massachusetts." OK, CBS News, just say "America." That's like telling your partner ... I have this little rash from my right toe to my left ear. The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon I want to say congratulations to our friends Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck, who got married over the weekend in Las Vegas! That's right, they got married at a drive-thru chapel. You know inflation is bad when even those two are like, "Let's just do it in Vegas." Dr. Fauci said that he plans to retire by the end of President Biden's term. Then everyone turned to Biden like, "Is there anything you'd like to an- nounce, too?" Of course, when he's gone, Fauci will be replaced by a new, slightly weaker vari- ant. According to a recent study, CO- VID can live on frozen meat for more than a month. I feel bad for the scientists who spent a month rubbing nasal swabs on frozen meat. You know we're living through fun times when you're giving sausage a PCR test. The Late Late Show With James Corden Boris Johnson was reportedly forced to scrap plans to build a treehouse on the grounds of the prime minister's country estate, which would have cost the taxpayer[s] $180,000. An- other house he's lost support in! [June 21] was the Summer Sol- stice, the longest day of the year, and to celebrate, thousands gathered at Stonehenge for the first time since 2019. Look at them — kicking off hot druid summer! Jimmy Kimmel Live! with Kerry Washington I'm only hosting ["Jimmy Kim- mel Live!"] for one night, which honestly is still one night more than Jimmy has worked this entire summer! It's a big night here on Holly- wood Boulevard; the ESPY Awards are happening right across the street from us and I was thinking about it today — you know, the nice thing about an awards show where every presenter is a totally ripped athlete is that no one's gonna walk up there and try to slap them. Late Night With Seth Meyers The National Archives yester- day [July 19] asked the Secret Service to provide informa- tion about the deletion of agents' text messages pertain- ing to the Capitol attack. "Who's laughing now," said the one agent with an An- droid, who wasn't allowed in the group chat. Former New York mayor Bill de Blasio announced yesterday [July 19] he's ending his congres- sional campaign, and I'm guess- ing this is not how Bill de Blasio wanted everyone to learn he had a congressional campaign. Netflix reported yesterday that it lost nearly one million sub- scribers in the last three months. Well, Netflix, I think you have your answer [to the "Are you still watching?" pop up]. Two governing bodies of quid- ditch have announced that they will change the name of the sport to quadball in an effort to distance themselves from [Harry Potter author] J.K. Row- ling. Said bullies: "Fine. Let's go beat up the quadball players, then." After a man recently fell and in- jured himself at Lake Tahoe, his border collie ran 200 yards through a remote area of the forest to lead rescue crews to his owner, while his French bulldog ran six feet and imme- diately died. LATE LAUGHS BY MICHELLE ROSE TV Media Green light: If one were to name all of the TV shows that have recently been revived, re- booted or remade, that long list would have to include "Law and Order," "Gossip Girl," "Frasier" and, now, "Criminal Minds." One of the most-watched shows on CBS during its 15-year run (2005-2020), "Criminal Minds" is officially being re- vived at Paramount+. The word "officially" is key, since a revival has been in the works since Feb- ruary 2021 — though things looked bleak last summer when returning original series cast member Paget Brewster tweeted "we think it's dead" in response to a fan's question on the reviv- al's status. Happily, the project seemed to be back on track earlier this year, when ABC Signature and CBS Studios reached a license agree- ment with Paramount+ for 10 new episodes. And now that cast and crew negotiations are com- plete, the streamer has formally given a series order to the show, with production slated to begin next week (Aug. 21) in Los Ange- les. Longtime showrunner/execu- tive producer Erica Messer is onboard for the revival, as are six fan-favorite cast members: Brewster, A.J. Cook, Joe Manteg- na, Adam Rodriguez, Aisha Ty- ler and Kirsten Vangsness. "For 15 seasons, 'Criminal Minds' was at the forefront of cutting-edge scripted drama as it explored the psychology behind crime — thrillingly," stated Ni- cole Clemens, president of origi- nal scripted series at Para- mount+. "The series never stopped evolving during its run, and we are beyond excited to bring it back into a new era with new stories for a new generation of viewers at Paramount+. Erica, the whole cast and creative team are building a season full of new twists that we are sure will elec- trify audiences." Unlike its original run on CBS, the Paramount+ revival will fea- ture a serialized format, so cases won't be resolved by the end of each episode. Instead, viewers will follow the BAU team as they work on a case over the course of 10 episodes and "come up against their greatest threat yet, an UnSub who has used the pan- demic to build a network of oth- er serial killers. Now, as the world opens back up, the net- work goes operational and the team must hunt them down, one murder at a time" (per the show's logline). Jackman's 'Koala Man': Some prominent Australian stars have joined the cast of Hu- lu's upcoming adult animated series "Koala Man," which hails from "Rick and Morty" co-cre- ator Justin Roiland and "Smiling Friends" co-creator Michael Cu- sack. The series' biggest "get" is Hollywood and Broadway star Hugh Jackman ("Logan," 2017). Jackman is no stranger to the world of animation, having al- ready lent his voice to roles in such animated features as "Flushed Away" (2006), "Happy Feet" (2006), "Missing Link" (2019) and, most recently, Netf- lix's "Human Resources." Another big name is "Succes- sion's" Sarah Snook. But if you're used to hearing the actress in character as Siobhan Roy, it might come as a surprise to hear Snook's Australian accent. The animated show, which was ordered straight to series in March 2021, centers on "middle- aged dad Kevin [voiced by Cu- sack] and his titular, not-so-se- cret identity, whose only super- power is a burning passion for following rules and snuffing out petty crime in the town of Dap- to." The official logline goes on to note: "Though it may seem like any other Australian suburb, forces of evil, both cosmic and man-made, lie in wait to pounce on unsuspecting Daptonians. On a quest to clean up his home- town, and often roping his frus- trated family into his adven- tures, Koala Man stands at the ready. He'll do whatever it takes to defeat villainous master- minds, supernatural horrors, or worse: jerks who don't take their rubbish bins down on the proper days." Jackman will voice Big Greg, the most well-liked man in Dap- to and head of the town council. As Kevin's direct supervisor, Big Greg often makes Kevin feel in- adequate as both a provider and a man. What's worse, the towns- people are constantly giving Big Greg all the credit for Koala Man's work. Snook will voice Kevin's wife, Vicky, who believes her husband is just experiencing a mid-life crisis and that all his antics are simply part of a phase that will soon pass. Australian comedian Demi Lardner ("Open Slather") has also joined the cast as Alison, Kevin's daughter and sister to Liam. Alison is determined to become the most popular girl in school, and she's more than ready to put distance between herself and her family. Joe Mantegna to star in reboot of "Criminal Minds" STARS ON SCREEN
