16 www.DesertMessenger.com July 20, 2022 these goals. There are many people in this town with little or no trans- portation to get to the few doctors in the towns that surround us. Bring- ing doctors here more often will give these people better medical care. If I am elected I feel I can work on these issues and others, such as the improving Camel Express, housing and employment, bringing better jobs to town etc... that will improve our town for our full time residents. will give these people better medical care. If I am elected I feel I can work on these issues and others, such as the improving Camelback Express, housing and employment, bringing better jobs to town etc...that will improve our town for our full time residents. LORETTA WARNER 2.Council 4-Year Council Seat 3.N/A 4. My background includes eight years serving the Community as Council Member; six of those years as Vice-Mayor. I have an extensive knowledge of governmental finance and budget procedures. I have at- tended many League conferences and meetings in order to stay abreast of issues at the State and local levels. 5. I have served on the League Fi- nance Board, Secretary/ Treasurer of the MPC Board and Secretary/Trea- surer of Quartzsite Special Projects, Inc. In addition, I have participated in many management meetings to keep current with the issues. 6. One of the biggest public issues is the effect of census on our budget and other aspects. I will continue to support in any way I can the efforts of our Administration to lobby for a census recount. The addition of the Northwest Quadrant to the existing sewer system is a huge project that I will continue to monitor and assist with any way I can. One of the most controversial is- sues is Section 30.09 which was brought into play at the beginning of this election cycle. It is my intent to have this issue brought forward for review again with the hope that the outcome can be fair and equi- table to all candidates. 7. I will continue to live up to my oath to uphold laws and regulations of all levels of government including Federal, State and local. I will also continue to listen to and represent the Community in order to consider all sides of an issue brought before Council. I will make decisions that are as fair and impartial as possible and for the Community as a whole. KAREY AMON Seeking a third two-year term on Quartzsite Town Council. My cam- paigning is done meeting residents at the Post Office, hardware store, grocery store, Community Center, RV parks and local events. My 20+ years as a landlord has taught me to: 1.Listen to concerns and requests 2. Ask how we can work together to resolve issues 3. Make clear the responsibilities of each party 4. Hold fast to the agreed upon rul- er of the house 5. Five years in Quartzsite town government serving on the Plan- ning & Zoning Commission along with the Town Council helped me understand the limitations of gov- ernment and how to make projects work within the guidelines in State and Local Ordinances. I volunteer for all town events, par- ticipate in 4-H programs and Coun- ty Fair judging, donate, help with af- ter-school programs, support school fundraising events, attend gradua- tion exercises and invite our youth to participate in town hall presenta- tions and recognition events. I serve on the County WACOG Board and League of Town and Cit- ies Government and Elections Com- mittee. I am a member of Quartzsite Women's Club which is a non-profit serving our community with schol- arships and financial needs. 6. I do not have a list of things to change in Quartzsite because we work constantly on the process of studying, verifying and finding support from residents on the projects brought for- ward each month. I believe the chang- es we want come from the process of administering the codes and proce- dures we have in place to meet resi- dent and business owner requests. 7. Most important is Planning & Zoning issues. I encourage resi- dents to attend the meetings on the General Plan assessments. That is where everything starts when plan- ning growth for Quartzsite. Water conservation is also of prima- ry importance. The town is develop- ing plans to capture and recycle water for re-use in irrigating and landscap- ing. Our wastewater treatment plant is performing well, and our new wa- ter well is ready to meet the demand for residents and visitors. When council members attend county, district or state meetings we are told what an amazing transfor- mation Quartzsite has undergone. Work done by staff on beautifica- tion is extensive and recognized by those outside of our town. I also support Quartzsite's Clean-up days by removing unwanted items from residents' yards. I am excited to be re-elected and serve again on the Quartzsite Town Council to complete projects being worked on and have a part in new projects to advance improvements and growth of our town. Quartzsite is alive and well!! Karey Amon, 2-year term on the Quartzsite Town Council COLLEEN O'MEARA 2. Council member 2 years. 3. Facebook/Internet which as been eye opening. I'm thankful for my bully who not only helped me gain supporters but pointed out to others how unstable over worked folks can get. Such a shame, but I'm grateful. 4. Masters in Social Work. As a social worker who held a LCSW License I have run groups to as- sist caregivers of older adults in managing their stress. As a home health social worker I worked with medical teams, Area Agency on Ag- ing and county services to improve /increase services to at risk seniors living alone and wishing to remain in the community. I counseled and advised patients and families on service options and assisted with long term planning. AND more. I understand and can interact with agencies as it was necessary when providing resources to patients. 5. Volunteer with the Salvation Army. Craft Coordinator for Senior Center. I have helped and continue to support and educate home craft- ers who have never shown their work in a public venue to under- stand the marketing "mystery" of a Craft Show. Providing them educa- tion in order to make the most of their efforts and talent. 6. Here are the main goals I seek in my tenure surviving this pending election.(of course some will take more than 2 years to reach, if so I'll just have to run again. -To improve the appearance of our main street so that our town has an improved INVITING "visual". -To develop a retirement commu- nity that provides Long Term Care. Seniors have spent their long lives dealing with challenges/struggles. Many don't wish to see their final years hauled away by family or placed in a facility away from the town and friends they consider home. -To Re-evaluate what we spend and who we give it to. How does a town of 2433 or whatever you think it should substantiate the spend- ing $150k to one man? Let's avoid outside experts as much as feasible. We've been too quick to like the pockets of outsiders or those with skin in the game. Stop it. 7. As a Council team member I will support and add a creative thinker to the mix. Strive keep the focus of what serves our RESIDENTS. AND support reducing town debt where possible by seeking increased rev- enue options. Give them someone they can trust to see to their inter- ests and a thriving area.
