QES accepts construction bid for 4+ Million dollars; Quartzsite Campus rebuild to begin in August By Shanana Rain Golden-Bear Thursday, July 14, 2022, during their regular meeting, the Quartzsite Elementary School District #4 (QES) Board of Directors approved a re- vised budget to include $4,094,000 grant from School Facilities Board. They accepted a bid from Sun Valley Builders to rebuild the Quartzsite campus. QES Campus temporarily closed while waiting on new build- ings. Students have been bussed to the Ehrenberg Campus for instruc- tion. The full grant will provide the Quartzsite Campus with all new classrooms, library, and offi ce. There will be new fl ooring, walls and roofi ng in the gym. The foundations of the classrooms will be redone also. The Gym will also receive new HVAC's and weatherization. Eh- renberg Campus will have improvements as well, including a new water fountain and septic tank. The only cost for the district will be $5,000 for a one color school logo to be painted on the building. During their regular meeting Monday, July 18th, La Paz County Board of Supervisors approved Option 101 redistricting map for La Paz County, which is very similar to the present districts and will continue to split Quartzsite into two districts. Large section of CRIT reservation will now move into District 3. Supervisors also approved new district map for AWC (Arizona Western College) The U.S. Constitution re- quires that legislative and congressional districts get redrawn at least once every 10 years using new census data to guarantee equal rep- resentation, and the states are in charge. Under Arizona law, the La Paz County Board of Supervisors is required to undergo redistricting every 10 years following the release of decennial census population estimates and adopt new district lines for the purpose of balancing the population of each district to within 10 percent. These new districts will be refl ected in the 2024 elections. However, previous conversations with the company describes the the project may take one to two and half years. Quartzsite Elementary School District #4 (QES) staff and elect- ed offi cials began the process to improve the Quartzsite Campus building about 4 years ago. QES Board President Monica Timberlake said, "I'm glad we're fi nally getting to a place where we will be able to see construction. We've been saying all along we've been working on this grant.
