WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM APRIL 27 - MAY 03, 2022 UCW 21 Fayetteville Technical Community College's Business Administration/ Marketing program provides students with fundamental marketing, promo- tion, advertising and customer service skills. e program is designed to provide students with essential skills in the following areas: advertising, customer service, management, marketing principles, marketing research/appli- cations, consumer behavior, retailing, social media marketing (Hoot Suite Certification) and visual merchandis- ing. e degree is available online and with face to face classes. FTCC Student Debra Pate Smith made that call, and she shares her story to help inspire others. A work- related injury provided an opportu- nity for Smith to return to college and work toward the degree she never acquired but had always wanted. "I spent thirty-plus years hiding my lack of credentials by working hard and always striving to be the best at whatever I was tasked to do during my radio/television career. I was embar- rassed that I could not afford a higher education, nor did I have the confi- dence in myself to just go for it," Smith said. Smith stepped up to the challenge, realizing it was now or never, and in May 2022, she will graduate from FTCC with honors. "FTCC has been one of the greatest things that has ever happened to me," Smith said. "I've learned that I'm as smart as I will allow myself to be, that life is worth facing our biggest fears, and for every one person who says you can't, there are dozens who say you can. at is what I found in the support system I received from my instructors at FTCC." Recently, Smith became a full- time staff member at FTCC and has decided to work toward her bachelor's degree. "Believe it or not, the support system here at the college has never left my side, and FTCC continues to help me move toward my goals," she said. "is all sounds like a Cinderella story because it is. I made a wish, and it came true. Instead of a glass slipper, I have a beautiful piece of parchment paper that has made my dream come true." FTCC offers two summer sessions of classes for students who want to use their time wisely during the sum- mer months or stay ahead of sched- ule in terms of program completion. Registration is also currently open for fall semester classes. For questions about FTCC's Business Administra- tion/Marketing program, call 910-678- 8208 or email seafords@faytechcc. edu.
