Today there are 46 breweries throughout the state. To acknowledge this trend, the governor has proclaimed March 6 through 12 Arkansas Craft Beer Week. And if you are searching for a location to celebrate in Northwest Arkansas, look no further than Gotahold Brewing in Eureka Springs. "We will be using the opportunity to support the Arkansas Brewers Guild (ABG)," said Wendy Reese Hartmann, CEO (Chief Experience Organizer) of Gotahold Brewing and current vice president of ABG. "We will be releasing a new beer that week as well as having Stone's Throw Brewing from Little Rock up for #tipsfortransformation Thursday, March 10. Both Stone's Throw and Gotahold Brewing will be donating 100% of the tips and $1 from every pint sold to ABG. Also, on March 12, Pint Day, $2 of every Arkansas Pint Day glass sold with benefit the ABG." Wendy likes to say that Eureka Springs "got ahold" of her and her husband, Masterbrewer Dave Hartmann. They knew it was where they wanted to make their home, open a brewery, and give back to the community and region they had fallen in love with. So, they built a brewery dedicated to changing customers' perception of beer while inspiring a deeper connection, compassion, and positive action in the world. "Dave is an incredible brewer," Wendy said. "But his creativity was often stifled while working for a very large, regional brewery. So, we wanted to open our own brewery and started searching for the right location." Tired of the snow in Vermont where they were living, the two looked to move south. "As an only child, I wanted to be a little closer to my father in Oklahoma," Wendy explained. "I wanted to be in a community open and welcoming to LGBTQ because I wanted my dad, who's gay, to feel safe when he visited. We also wanted to be able to bike, hike, and kayak and a location where you could find art, music, and good food available." Fortunately for craft beer fans throughout Northwest Arkansas, Eureka Springs checked all the boxes. Dave and Wendy put down roots in 2018 and opened Gotahold Brewing in July 2020. The brewery offers a diverse portfolio that typically includes a lager (Dave learned how to brew those in Germany), a sour or two, IPA, a seasonal, a witbier or saison, and in the winter some barrel- aged beers. "We recently released the first vintage of a Flemish Red that has been aging in red wine barrels for a year," Wendy said, "We have our Tripel and a barleywine aging in barrels now. We are looking forward to doing a couple of collaborations this year with other breweries we respect. And we are playing with more sour and funky beers." One of the star attractions of Gotahold Brewing is their Taproom. Dave and Wendy purchased a building originally built for the Elks Lodge in 1982. Clear Springs School later bought it for a high school and added on a room where the portico used to be for a woodworking classroom. make your way to Gotahold Brewing for award-winning craft beer in beautiful Eureka Springs
