T8 WHATS UP! March 6 - 12, 2022 BY RAYE SMITH TV Media WHAT'S NEW ON NETFLIX "The Adam Project" (2022) Saving the world becomes a per- sonal affair in "The Adam Proj- ect," the new science fiction ac- tion film coming to Netflix on Friday, March 11. Ryan Reynolds ("Deadpool," 2016) stars as Adam, a time-travelling fighter pilot who accidentally crash lands in the year 2022. Landing right back where he grew up, Adam ends up on a time- and space-bending mission with his 12-year-old self (played by new talent Walker Scobell) to save the future and hopefully recon- cile with his past. From the pro- ducers of "Free Guy" (2021), in- cluding Reynolds, director Shawn Levy, George Dewey, Dan Cohen, Dan Levine, and Josh and Mary McLaglen, "The Adam Project" features a screenplay by Jonathan Tropper ("This is Where I Leave You," 2014), T.S. Nowlin ("The Maze Runner," 2014), and Jennifer Flackett and Mark Levin (both of "Big Mouth"). Mark Ruffalo ("The Avengers," 2012), Jennifer Garner ("Alias"), Catherine Keener ("Being John Malkov- ich," 1999), Zoe Saldana ("Guardians of the Galaxy," 2014), Mellanie Hubert ("King Knight," 2021), Braxton Bjerken ("Good Girls"), Ellie Harvie ("Snowpiercer"), Ben Wilkinson ("Deadpool," 2016), Alex Mallari Jr. ("Ginny & Georgia") and Es- ther Li ("Snowpiercer") also star in the film. WHAT'S NEW ON DISNEY+ "Turning Red" (2022) Get ready for some huge grow- ing pains with Walt Disney Pic- tures and Pixar Animation Stu- dios' newest computer animated film "Turning Red," premiering on Disney+ on Friday, March 11. "Growing up is a beast," as the film's official logline says, some- thing that is especially true for 13-year-old Chinese-Canadian Mei Lee (voiced by Rosalie Chi- ang, "Soiled," 2018). Confident, dorky and ready to embrace her wild teenage side, Mei finds her- self constantly caught between her desire to let loose and her duty to be the quiet, caring daughter her overprotective mother (Sandra Oh, "Killing Eve") expects. As if struggling with herself, her friends, her changing interests and her fami- ly weren't enough, whenever Mei gets too excited, she puffs up and changes into a giant, fluffy red panda. With her friends and family by her side, Mei must learn to embrace her- self for who she is, furriness and all. Directed and written by Do- mee Shi ("Bao," 2018) and co- written by Julia Cho ("Fringe"), "Turning Red" is the first Pixar film to be directed exclusively by a woman. The film's voice cast is rounded out by Ava Morse ("Ron's Gone Wrong," 2021), Maitreyi Ramakrishnan ("Never Have I Ever"), Hyein Park ("Soul," 2020), Orion Lee ("Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi," 2017), Wai Ching Ho ("Sister of the Groom," 2020), Tristan Allerick Chen ("Diary of a Wimpy Kid," 2021) and Addie Chandler ("Barbie Dreamto- pia"). "Bust Down" pre- mieres on Peacock on Thursday, March 10, and follows a group of four friends working dead-end jobs at a casino in middle Ameri- ca. Across each of the premiere season's six half-hour episodes, cameras follow the group through a bevy of bad decisions, ridiculous antics and the cre- ative ways they get themselves out of the wild messes of their own making. Starring Chris Redd ("Kenan"), Jak Knight ("Big Mouth"), Sam Jay ("That Damn Michael Che") and Langs- ton Kerman ("The Boys"), the series brings audiences non- stop laughs by way of a raunchy, irreverent brand of humor. WHAT'S NEW ON PRIME "Upload" - Season 2 Get a new lease on life with the Season 2 premiere of "Upload," available to stream on Prime beginning Friday, March 11. In a world where one's conscious- ness can be uploaded into a vir- tual realm after death, dying might not seem quite so scary, right? Well, app developer Na- than (Robbie Amell, "The Flash") gets to find out more of the pros and cons of such an existence as this series heads into its second season. After getting grievously injured in a self-driving car accident, Na- than's shallow girlfriend, Ingrid (Allegra Edwards, "Briar- patch"), pressures him into up- loading himself into her fami- ly's luxury virtual afterlife. But not all is as it seems, and as Na- than develops a relationship with his "angel" (his living world programmer), Nora (Andy Allo, "Chicago Fire"), he learns more about his life, his death and the relationships he thought he understood. Now, Season 2 finds Nathan caught between his desire for a rela- tionship with Nora and Ingrid wanting back into his life. Meanwhile, Nora delves deeper into the mystery of a devious, controlling tech world.
