T22 WHATS UP! February 20 - 26, 2022 The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Everyone calm down! There's no reason to panic. The impend- ing disaster we all worried about this weekend has been resolved because all monkeys have "been accounted for after a truck with 100 monkeys" crashed. They got all 100 monkeys, thanks presum- ably to 100 men in 100 yellow hats. It was announced that Netflix is raising their prices, and if you're concerned about what that means for the Netflix account you're using, don't worry — that's your ex-boyfriend's mom's problem. There's big news in NFTs. And for those of you who don't know what an NFT is, look it up and tell me because I don't get it even though it's been explained to me many times — one time by me! Well, whatever they are, it was just announced that New York's first NFT restaurant is coming soon. The restaurant, which is called "Flyfish Club," doesn't have a location yet, but the founders have announced that the menu is "seafood in- spired." So, Goldfish crackers? Tonight we are very close to dis- covering the identities of some of the friends of billionaire sexu- al predator and all-around horri- ble former human being Jeffrey Epstein. ... Even though the names of Epstein's pals were sealed in a previous case, [Ghis- laine] Maxwell says she will "no longer fight to keep the names of eight 'John Does'" a secret, which means a comeuppance could be uppance-coming. ... If it's revealed that one of the John Does is Woody Allen, it could ruin his reputation. Russia continues to amass troops along the Ukraine border, so President Biden is consider- ing deploying "thousands of troops to eastern Europe and the Baltics." That headline reads way too much like a game of Risk. Let's have some that sound like we're playing a nicer board game, like "Hippo Hunger Re- mains Insatiable" or "New York City's Biggest Landlord: This Thimble." The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon A search for a new Supreme Court justice has begun. Today it was announced the oldest jus- tice on the bench, Stephen Brey- er, is retiring. Yup, at 83 Breyer only has two options: either re- tire or play quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. A bipartisan group of senators just announced legislation to make the U.S. more prepared for a pandemic. Wow, great timing! Next week they're going to come up with a plan to fight this Y2K thing I keep hearing about. Rudy Giuliani was asked to turn over files for an election lawsuit against him but said that he can't "because the FBI seized all his computers." I'm no legal expert, but if all your evidence from a le- gal investigation is being used in another, you might be going to jail. A giant winter storm is heading for the East Coast, but I saw this one tweet from NBC News that wasn't super helpful. It said, "New York City could see be- tween two inches and 20 inches of snow this weekend." Oh, thanks a lot. Pretty big range right there. ... Who's making these predictions? The CDC? Bud Light just announced that they're releasing Bud Light Next, a zero-carb beer that they spent nearly 10 years trying to make. Ten years. Wow! Some- how it took a few months for the Pfizer vaccine but 10 years for Bud Light Next. The Late Late Show With James Corden Over the weekend, Dr. Fauci an- nounced that he's confident Omicron cases will peak in mid- February and then taper off. Good, good. Only two more weeks to flatten the curve. I'm sure this time it's going to pan out. I think Fauci is right: Omi- cron has passed its peak, be- cause it's just signed on to be a contestant in the next season of "Dancing With the Stars." Donald Trump's former attor- ney Michael Cohen is now claiming Trump told him that if one of his kids had to go to pris- LATE LAUGHS BY MICHELLE ROSE TV Media From DC to Star Wars: The Force is strong with Mary Eliza- beth Winstead ("Birds of Prey," 2020) — or maybe it isn't. We don't know yet. Winstead has joined the cast of "Ahsoka," one of several Star Wars live-action series/spinoffs in development at Disney+. But here's the thing: Disney and Lu- casfilm have remained rather tight-lipped, and key plot details, including any information about Winstead's character, have been kept under wraps. We know that "Daredevil" ac- tress Rosario Dawson will re- prise her "Mandalorian" role as the live-action version of Ahso- ka Tano, the former Jedi Padawan-turned-wanderer in- troduced in the 2008 animated film "Star Wars: The Clone Wars." Given that the Force-sensitive Togruta was front and center in the "Clone Wars" animated se- ries and in "Star Wars Rebels," many believe "Ahsoka" will fo- cus on Ahsoka's continuing hunt for Grand Admiral Thrawn — especially after that name-drop in "The Mandalorian." Perhaps it will lead to Ezra Bridger, given that Australian actress Natasha Liu Bordizzo ("The Society") has been cast as Sabine Wren. Fans have been trying to guess Winstead's character based on Ahsoka's established story. Of course, Star Wars franchise steward/writer/producer Dave Filoni, who co-created the char- acter of Ahsoka with George Lu- cas, might use Winstead's thes- pian skills to bring a new charac- ter to life instead. Another lingering question is how Canadian actor and Star Wars prequel star Hayden Christensen ("Star Wars: Epi- sode III - Revenge of the Sith," 2005) will reprise his role as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader in "Ahsoka." Christensen's Vader will still be alive (and angry) in Disney+'s upcoming "Obi-Wan Kenobi" series, starring "Doctor Sleep's" (2019) Ewan McGregor (Win- stead's partner in real life), but given that "Ahsoka" is set five years after Vader's death in "Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi" (1983), fans are convinced Christensen will pop up in flash- backs, maybe even as a Force Ghost. Just be Claus: Christmas in March? Filming should soon be- gin on Disney+'s "Santa Clause," a limited-series sequel to the Santa Clause films starring Tim Allen ("Toy Story," 1995). The comedian is back as Scott Calvin, who started out as a di- vorced dad in 1994's "The Santa Clause" before embracing his new role as Santa Claus. Actress Elizabeth Mitchell ("Lost") will also reprise her role as Carol Calvin, who became Scott's wife/Mrs. Claus in 2002's "The Santa Clause 2," and whose visit- ing parents created chaos along- side Jack Frost (Martin Short, "Only Murders in the Building") in 2006's "The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause." In the Disney+ series, Scott (Allen) is about to turn 65 and has come to the realization that he can't be Santa forever. He's starting to lose a step in his Santa duties, plus his family could ben- efit a little from living in the nor- mal world — especially his two kids who have grown up at the North Pole. With so many re- sponsibilities falling on his shoulders, Scott sets out to find the next Santa while preparing his family for a new life south of the pole. "Santa Clause" reunites Allen with at least two "Last Man Standing" alumni: creator Jack Burditt, who will serve as show- runner and executive producer, and writer/producer Kevin Hench, who is also on board as an executive producer. It also marks the continuation of Allen's collaboration with Disney, as he is not only the voice of the Toy Story fran- chise's Buzz Lightyear, but is also the star of 1997's "Jungle 2 Jungle" and 2006's "The Shaggy Dog." Tobias in time: History has provided actor Tobias Menzies with some of his most memora- ble roles, including his turn as Prince Philip in "The Crown," and history is repeating itself, because Menzies' next role will be based on another real-life his- torical figure. The English actor has been tapped to lead the cast of Apple's "Manhunt," a limited drama from "Fargo" producer Monica Beletsky. Described as part his- torical fiction, part conspiracy thriller (and not a factual retell- ing), the story explores the as- sassination of U.S. President Abraham Lincoln. Based on author James Swan- son's bestselling novel "Man- hunt: The 12-Day Chase for Lin- coln's Killer," Menzies will play Edwin Stanton, who served as secretary of war under both Lin- coln and his presidential succes- sor, Andrew Johnson. After Lincoln was shot at Ford's Theatre on April 14, 1865, the real-life Stanton rushed to his friend's side and took charge of the situation. More impor- tantly (at least where "Manhunt" is concerned), Stanton initiated the search for Lincoln's assassin and his co-conspirators, and that's the story that will play out on our screens. Apple describes Menzies' Stanton as a person who "was nearly driven to madness by his quest to catch John Wilkes Booth and carry out Lincoln's legacy." It also noted that the sto- ry "strongly features Black his- torical figures whose lives inter- Mary Elizabeth Winstead to star in "Ahsoka" STARS ON SCREEN
