T7 BY MICHELLE ROSE TV Media L asagna, chili, pot pies, mac and cheese — these are some of the stick-to- your-ribs comfort foods that have the ability to instantly induce cravings, especially in times when limited sunlight or chronic stress leave you feeling downright lethargic. Comfort foods are the focus of Food Network's daytime lineup on Saturday, Feb. 26, and Sunday, Feb. 27, and the cable network stars are serving up their takes on classic recipes that should satisfy all of your end-of-winter cravings. The Saturday lineup begins with rebroadcasts of "Barefoot Contessa: Modern Comfort," in which Ina Garten kicks things off with easy dinner ideas rang- ing from spring-green risotto to heartier rigatoni with sausage and fennel, before following it up with updated takes on some childhood favorites. The theme continues throughout the morning, lead- ing up to a new episode of "The Pioneer Weekend." Ree Drummond believes that when it comes to good food, grandma knows best, and Drummond's retro Salisbury steak proves that the flavors of yesteryear are just as enjoyable today. There's also skillet scal- loped potatoes, plus a go-to ap- ple crisp that is the cinnamon- scented food equivalent of a hug. A new episode of "The Kitch- en" offers a more modern/so- phisticated take on childhood comfort foods, with Jeff Mau- ro's mortadella and fig pizza ba- gel and Geoffrey Zakarian's PB&J crème brulée. Alex Guar- naschelli, meanwhile, keeps it casual (but just as delicious) with her pretzel-ish pigs in a blanket with mustard sauce, and Katie Lee Biegel serves her Philly cheesesteak sloppy Joe. The theme carries into Sun- day's daytime lineup when, fol- lowing encore episodes of "Tri- sha's Southern Kitchen," "Val- erie's Home Cooking" and "The Pioneer Woman," Molly Yeh warms up a snowy day by cook- ing some Midwest-inspired fa- vorites, including fried walleye sandwiches, in a new episode of "Girl Meets Farm." If casseroles or chicken are your go-to options for family fa- vorites that warm your soul, Kardea Brown has both covered in "Delicious Miss Brown." Rice is the foundation of Gullah cooking, and in this new episode, the humble grain pro- vides the basis for four recipes, including crispy rice cereal- coated chicken and a cheesy rice casserole with turkey.
