In 2020, the break- fast had a turnout of over 75 people. Zefrim Lewis, Town of Spring Lake Interim Director, hopes people will attend as he feels it is worthwhile. "e breakfast at the Town of Spring Lake gives people a chance to experience fellow- ship and celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.," Lewis said. e breakfast, which Sta- chia's Fully Loaded Grill will provide, will consist of hash- browns, biscuits, sausage, ba- con, eggs, bagels and all other breakfast essentials. Reverend Jef- fery Saffold Sr., the pastor at Manna Life Center, will be the key speaker at the breakfast event. e breakfast at Spring Lake will be held at the Parks and Recre- ation Building off 245 Ruth St. on Jan. 14 at 9 a.m. e event is free for the public to attend. e 29th An- nual MLK Brunch will be held this year at the Crown Complex in Fayetteville. is year's theme is "Still, I Rise." e Fayetteville/ Cumberland County Ministerial Council (FCCMC) will highlight and celebrate His- torically Black Colleges and Universities and "Education and Humanity through Community Ser- vice." e key speaker at the event will be Fayetteville State University Chancellor Darrell Allison. Other speak- ers at the event include FCCMC Vice-President Allen McLaugh- lin, Morray's EBF Label CEO, Trevonne Carlise, Founder of the Group eory Youth Extravagan- za, Kevin Brooks, and FCCMC President Pastor Sharon ompson-Journigan. After the brunch, Group eory Inc has planned and or- ganized a Youth Extravaganza. Organizers want to assure young people in Fayetteville that the community cares about them despite the chal- lenging times in their commu- nities, schools and homes. e event will highlight resources and organizations dedicated to serving and assist- ing children and teens. e Youth Extravaganza will highlight art, music and tal- ent from children of all ages. Masks will be required at the brunch, and Centers for Disease Control Guidelines and social distancing will be enforced. e 29th Annual MLK Brunch and the Youth Extrava- ganza, which will take place on Jan. 17, will be live-streamed. Tickets to attend the event in person must be purchased in advance and cost $25. Tickets are available at the Crown Box Office, FSU, Lewis Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Simon Temple AME Zion, Manna Church, WIDU 1600AM radio station, Mt.
