Homes are selling left and right, and this flurry of activity is increasing the demand for repairs and the demand for maintenance techni- cians. is growth in real estate sales has also im- pacted the rental market. Property managers have reported an increase in the need for maintenance technicians within Cumberland County. As of July 15, Indeed.com reports over 800 Maintenance Technicians are needed just within North Carolina. With such a high demand for this position within the workforce, Fayetteville Technical Community College has developed the new Apartment Main- tenance Technician training program that is to be offered through the Corporate & Continuing Educa- tion Division. e Apartment Maintenance Technician program will provide highly specialized training to students in multiple trades including carpentry, HVAC, ap- pliance repair, electrical, plumbing and pool main- tenance. Along with developing the skillset in these areas, students will also obtain an EPA Refrigerant Recovery Certificate and a Certified Pool Opera- tor Certificate. Students completing this training program successfully will be qualified to pursue careers as professional Maintenance Technicians. e length of the Apartment Maintenance Techni- cian program is a total of 280 hours and takes seven weeks to complete. FTCC plans to offer the first cohort of the Apartment Maintenance Technician training program in September with additional co- horts being made available in October and January, 2022. FTCC's new Apartment Maintenance Tech program does not require any pre-requisites, but potential students should note that a basic knowl- edge of hand tools and an understanding of general maintenance terms and techniques will be benefi- cial. is program might be of particular interest to someone who wants to start training right away and finish with a marketable skillset, ready to enter the job market. e purpose of FTCC's Corporate & Continuing Education Division is to prepare individuals to en- ter the workforce with specialized skills and prepare them to obtain jobs in their area of expertise. Stu- dents who complete the Apartment Maintenance Technician program will be sure to find consistent work. e need for professional Maintenance Tech- nicians is high across the entire United States. Fayetteville Technical Community College's Corporate & Continuing Education Division offers a broad array of classes and programs of study to choose from including programs to help students quickly obtain job skills in many different career fields and be well qualified for success when enter- ing the workforce, programs to obtain basic skills in education, and courses for individuals to pursue a personal hobby or special interest, such as cooking courses, arts and crafts courses, motorcycle safety and much more.
