Cape Fear Regional eatre, the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra, U.S. Army Airborne and Special Operations Museum and Cool Spring Downtown District will be of- fering multiple events for the commu- nity Sept. 9-11. "As we reflect on that day and the ways that it forever changed the world, it is an honor to invite the community to come together and remember, reflect and ultimately celebrate the triumph of the American spirit." Sept. 9 at 6 p.m. at the ASOM 9/11 Remembrance, Twenty Years Later with David Zucchino David Zucchino, a Fayetteville na- tive and Terry Sanford High School graduate, is a contributing writer for e New York Times. He has been reporting regularly from Afghanistan for 20 years and will focus his discus- sion on coverage there. He is also the author of the book "under Run," which is about the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Zucchino was recently awarded a Pulitzer Prize this year for his book, "Wilmington's Lie: e Murderous Coup of 1898 and the Rise of White Supremacy." He was awarded a Pulit- zer Prize in 1989 for his reporting from South Africa. He has reported from more than three dozen countries, most recently from Afghanistan. e event is free for Museum Friend mem- bers and active duty military and $10 for other members of the public. Sept. 11 at 8 a.m. Field of Honor® Opening Ceremony at the ASOM Individuals who purchased Field of Honor flags will be invited to the opening ceremony and have an op- portunity to ring the Unity Bell in honor of their loved ones. Sept. 11 at 7:30 p.m. at Festival Park, "Where Were You" "Where Were You" is a collabora- tion between CFRT, the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra and Fort Bragg that remembers and honors the 20th anniversary of 9/11 and celebrates the triumph of the American spirit through story and song. e event will feature live performances from CFRT, FSO, the 82nd Airborne All American Chorus, Cumberland Choral Arts and other exciting programing. e event is free and open to the public. Sept. 11 at the ASOM, 9/11 Re- membrance Twenty Years Later A special focus exhibit in the main atrium will feature a steel beam from the World Trade Center and stone from the Pentagon in remembrance of the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. In addition to these community events, Segra Stadium will host the 3rd Annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb on Sept. 11 to honor and remember the FDNY firefighters, police and EMS who selflessly gave their lives on that tragic day. Each participant will pay tribute to those brave souls by climbing the equivalent of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center. Walk-up registration is available the day of the event, but t-shirts are not guaranteed. Registration is $30. Check-in and registration for the event will begin at 7:00 a.m. All pro- ceeds from the stair climb will benefit programs provided by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation to support the families of local fallen firefighters and the FDNY Counseling Services Unit. Opening ceremonies will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the climb will start at 8:47 a.m. Where Were You is a collaboration between Cape Fear Regional Theatre, The Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra, and Ft. Bragg that remembers and honors the 20th anniversary of 9/11 and celebrates the triumph of the American spirit through story and song.
