the Fraternity and Sorority Preserving the Greek experience for 6 W hy do we contribute to the FSPAC? We believe in the bigger picture of Greek life that transcends the four years of undergraduate experience. We look to the greater good of Greek life; that part of being with others that teaches sharing, caring, and preparing. Members of Greek life are often part of philanthropic efforts during their undergraduate years. Kappa Alpha Order undergraduates are focused on the Independence Fund, where chapters collect funds providing all- terrain wheelchairs to severely wounded veterans. Alpha Chi Omega members have raised funds to support domestic violence awareness since 1992. The women raise these funds through simple fundraisers and other activities that might include doing good works in the community, such as shoveling snow, raking leaves, or picking up trash for donations to their fund efforts. Their efforts incorporate both sharing and caring. And the preparing? The preparing for post-collegiate life grows out of those philanthropic activities. Undergraduates learn to give back. They learn responsibility for others. They learn that adults base their lives on virtues learned and lived. They learn that they will always have a greater family to "be there" for them in time of need and to "be there" for others in their time of need. We share the belief that certain issues are important to the learning atmosphere of young people. The opportunity to freely associate with whom they choose without interference from institutions or government. That choice includes the opportunity to select single-sex organizations. Furthermore, those opportunities should be free of bullying, hazing, and intimidation. Stronger laws against that nefarious behavior are in all Greek members' best interest. Finally, good housing is a logical component for all young men and women as they venture through their academic undergraduate careers. Therefore, it makes sense to us that the Collegiate Housing Infrastructure Act (CHIA) should be passed, allowing private funds to be raised for safe housing for these young people with the greatest likelihood of success. We give because we believe in the best that Greek life has to offer and wish to help it succeed by eliminating roadblocks to joining, doing away with anti-social and dangerous behavior, and supporting appropriate living accommodations. We believe in the virtues proper Greek life teaches for both students' undergraduate years and throughout adulthood. We give because we believe in the sharing, caring, and preparing of Greek life for its members. Sincerely, Jim Schmuck, KA Order Judy Schmuck, AΧΩ BreakiNg DowN The BeNefiTs of greek Life We believe in the virtues proper Greek life teaches for both students' undergraduate years and throughout adulthood. D uring my time as an undergraduate, I had the opportunity to join fellow Greek students at the annual FSPAC student lobbying trip to advocate for support of Collegiate Housing Infrastructure Act (CHIA). Brought together by our shared beliefs in the value of the fraternal experience, FSPAC provided the avenue for students from around the county to share with members of Congress the positive role that Greek organizations play on our campuses, within our communities, and in our own lives. Now as an alumnus, I am proud to support FSPAC because of its work to protect, enhance, and advocate for a quality experience for every student that chooses to join a fraternity or sorority. I believe that supporting FSPAC, which is focused on fighting for issues that are important to all Greek members and supporting candidates that believe in the value of our organizations, is critical to the long-term success of our individual chapters and national organizations. Fraternally, Jeffery George, ΠΚΦ Fighting for What's Right at FSPAC
