Political Action Committee future generations of student leaders 5 B esides being decidedly bipartisan, the FSPAC makes priority investments in National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) alumnae who are first-time Congressional candidates. NPC women are an under-represented group in Congress, and data has shown that early financial assistance for NPC candidates dramatically improves their odds for winning. In addition to those running in their initial race, every NPC alumna running for re-election in 2020 has received a contribution. The prior Congress was 24% female, and the FSPAC gave 39% of its contributions to female candidates for the 2020 election cycle. Women make up just over a quarter of all members of the 117th Congress—the highest percentage in U.S. history. Of the 534 total members of Congress, 144 (or 27%) are women—120 House members and 24 Senators. During the 2020 election cycle, the FSPAC provided funding for 194 candidates for the U.S. Senate and House. One hundred eighty-three of those candidates stood for election in 2020, and 161 won their elections. Members of 17 sororities (14 NPC and 3 NPHC) received FSPAC funding this cycle. Overall, the FSPAC contributed to 58 female Senators, Representatives, and candidates. The FSPAC's mission includes trying to help more NPC alumnae get elected to Congress for the first time. Five female candidates the FSPAC backed won their first election to Congress. We welcome these sorority women who were newly elected to Congress: Stephanie Bice Ashley Hinson Beth Van Duyne Nikema Williams (Oklahoma/ACW) (Iowa/PBF) (Texas/KAQ) (Georgia/AKA) We also congratulate Katherine Clark (Democrat-Massachusetts/KKG) who was elected to Assistant Speaker—the fourth-ranking position in the House—making her the highest-ranking sorority member in the House.
