Spring 2021 Preserving the Greek experience for future generations of student leaders the Fraternity and Sorority P O L I T I C A L A C T I O N C O M M I T T E E A fter all we have experienced during the most unusual year of our lives, the FSPAC joins you in welcoming 2021 with an optimistic view that this year will present us with good fortune. We feel positive that this year holds promise in several areas. The introduction (some by the time you read this) of significant legislation which will benefit our organizations and students. More opportunities for advocacy on the issues important to the long-term success of our organizations. Virtual and in-person events across the country to hear from our "champions" and celebrate together our "wins" in Congress. Your FSPAC board is grateful for your support and is working hard for you in areas that we hope will encourage additional engagement. Our communications efforts, through several platforms, will provide more facts and information about our issues and will explain ways you can assist beyond your donations. Our outreach and work to attract new donors will continue to be a focus, as will maintaining our relationship with you. Your support, both past and present, enables us to remain dedicated and energized to improving the Greek experience. We have always been and will continue to be laser focused on our students. The hope of young men and women across the country discovering their own path with a fraternity or sorority that shares their values and supports them throughout college and beyond is central to the work before us. We all know the benefits of the Greek experience, and YOU matter to us because YOU have traveled that path. Your support, commitment, and engagement collectively enable the FSPAC to be taken seriously on legislative and legal issues. You also give all FSPAC board members the motivation to fight hard to defend and enhance the Greek experience. I am proud to serve as your FSPAC president this year and commit to you that the FSPAC will make every effort to fight for our members. Fraternally, Ben Satcher, KA Order President Fraternity and Sorority Political Action Committee Optimism Abounds for FSPAC in 2021 1 2 3 The Time is Now FSPAC Looks to Build Upon Record-Breaking 2019-20 Fundraising Cycle A fter raising a record $1,038,659 in 2019-20, the FSPAC has set an even more ambitious fundraising goal of $1.2 million for the 2021-22 election cycle. Our students are finding extraordinary value in the benefits of the interfraternal experience. As a result, membership in fraternities and sororities has risen to a near all-time high. Unfortunately, today's reality is also one where the basic right to freedom of association is under assault on many campuses and extreme university restrictions threaten the fraternity and sorority experience. Formed in 2005, the FSPAC was established so that fraternities and sororities could have a voice in the public policy making process. Personal donations are pooled together to help elect candidates who, regardless of party affiliation, understand the Greek experience and the specific needs, interests, and concerns of fraternity men and sorority women. Through its support of pro-Greek candidates, the FSPAC can form relationships with our nation's leaders and educate them on critical issues like freedom of association rights, anti-hazing policies, and single-sex status concerns. When elected to Congress, these candidates become our advocates who can then help defend and preserve the fraternal experience by supporting the passage of favorable and equitable legislation like the Collegiate Freedom of Association Act, END ALL Hazing Act, and REACH Act. The negative pressure heaped upon on our undergraduate broth- ers and sisters from colleges and external groups is getting more intense. Threats to our organizations' single-sex status, undergrad- uate due process, and freedom of association rights will continue unless we act together. Just like the upperclass lifetime and alum- ni members before you who paved the way for your fraternity or sorority experience, it is now your turn to help build a bridge to the future for other worthy men and women.
