4 W hen Jay Ricker (BZ 1084) joined Sigma Nu, the chapter house was already falling into disrepair. e old house, which he describes as similar in design (although much bigger) to the one in Animal House, was in terrible shape and in dire need of repairs. However, it had unmatched character, loads of history, and it was where Jay was afforded leadership opportunities that set him up for success in the oil and convenience stores industry. His son, Quinn Ricker (BZ 1774), spent time at the old chapter house in his childhood while Jay was chairman of the House Corporation. He followed his dad's footsteps to Sigma Nu and also gained leadership experience that has aided him in his own professional endeavors. Both men have ties to the current chapter house as Jay helped design and fundraise for it and Quinn lived there. ey were each blessed with the opportunity to grow and learn in their respective Beta Zeta chapter houses. Now, they are doing their part as alumni to show their appreciation for their Sigma Nu experiences by supporting the Honoring Our Legacy, Securing Our Future campaign. "As the former House Corporation chairman, I knew all the ins and outs of the new house. I was up there a number of times as it was being built," Jay said. "I was involved in making sure we had brothers who took care of the house." Quinn had a deeper appreciation for the chapter house than most undergraduates during his time at Purdue because of his ties to Sigma Nu as a legacy. He grew up hearing about his dad's Sigma Nu stories in the old chapter house. He was fortunate to have his own formative experience in the current house. Sharing the Blessings of Sigma Nu Jay Ricker (BZ 1084) and Quinn Ricker (BZ 1774) on eir Capital Campaign Support "I had a wonderful experience living in close quarters with many different personalities. at experience shaped how I interact and engage with people, which made me a more confident and outgoing individual," Quinn shared. "We were all shaped by some type of experience at Sigma Nu. I would assume most of our brothers have been blessed in one way or another in life, in experiences and financially. If you have the ability to give some and share your blessings, I think that's appropriate." Jay and Quinn also formed lasting, lifelong friendships through Sigma Nu. ey enjoy sharing and comparing the bonds of brotherhood together. Quinn has stayed close with Ryan Oberhausen (BZ 1764), and he reconnected with Tom Mayer (BZ 1832) through business, who has been a wonderful friend and person to work with. As alumni, Jay and Roger Norris (BZ 1083) lived near each other for many years, traveled together, and Roger's wife, Dianne, was introduced to him through Jay and his wife, Nancy. Undoubtedly, Sigma Nu le a lasting impression on Quinn and Jay—an impression that ultimately motivated them to provide for future generations of Beta Zeta brothers at Purdue. "It's important to give back, especially to the fraternity that helped shape your career. If you've become successful because of what someone did before you, and you were able to take advantage of it with no obligation at that time, then it's important to pay that forward," Jay said. "[If brothers] are not in a position to contribute large gis, they can also donate their time to help raise money for our fraternity." You can connect with Jay at jricker@ rickerholdings.net and Quinn at quinn@ rickerholdings.net to find out more about their respective careers and their support of the capital campaign.
