3 A s a serial entrepreneur, Scott Murray (BZ 1535) has made quite the career of building organizations from scratch. A key ingredient to each stop in Scott's career has been the leadership skills he developed as a Sigma Nu at Purdue. Scott has seen how Beta Zeta has built not only his own career, but the careers of his brothers as well. Aer building and selling three different businesses, Scott launched Real Good Vodka in 2016 and has recently enrolled a few of his Sigma Nu Brothers to serve on his Board of Managers. Scott believes that leadership opportunities he had within Sigma Nu as well as the IFC were critical early steps in honing his leadership skills and style. is foundation allowed for continued growth and success in the business world. He acknowledges the impact of the chapter's previous capital campaign and is thankful that he got to live in both the Littleton house, as well as the current house in the Acres. Now that Beta Zeta is back on the rise, Scott is doing his part to build something special within our brotherhood again by giving to the Honoring Our Legacy, Securing Our Future capital campaign. "e chapter had a pretty big impact on me growing from an immature freshman to the more rounded young man I was when I graduated. e efforts of the generation before me made that possible by getting the house in the Acres built. I view the responsibility of my generation in simple terms—it is our turn to give back and foster the same opportunities that we had as undergraduates," Scott said. "I don't say that lightly. We benefited directly from the last capital campaign. If we can help now, then it's our time to answer the call." e hard work that Scott and his brothers put into Beta Zeta being named a Rock Chapter for Sigma Nu is something he still cherishes. e awards have continued rolling in for Scott in many of the endeavors he's pursued since graduating from Purdue. Scott won an Emmy in 2009, which served as a swan song of sorts for his work in advertising business. He then worked in the predictive analytics soware field before testing the waters in the liquor industry with Real Good Vodka in 2016. While work keeps Scott busy, he makes time for the occasional round of golf and all of the travel soccer he can handle with his three daughters. His oldest plans on playing at MIT next year. Owning a liquor company means Scott spend a lot of time in the role of mixologist developing new and interesting cocktails. One of his favorites is a White Rose, named the official flower of Sigma Nu in honor of all the brothers from his time there who married their college sweethearts. "In many ways, a good cocktail is a good analogy for my time at Sigma Nu as an undergraduate. e muddled mint, strawberry, and cucumber create the perfect blend sweetness, texture, and smoothness when mixed with three ounces of vodka, ice, and Topo Chico sparkling mineral water," Scott said. "e best part of Sigma Nu for was bringing guys from all walks of life under one roof in a way that brings people together. Just like in a well-balanced cocktail enjoyed in moderation amongst friends." Scott is excited to be a part of the recipe to make Sigma Nu successful at Purdue once again. He's a firm believer that additional alumni support is the key ingredient to the campaign. "We did a lot of things really well and it was a special place. I look forward to seeing a unique and enriching environment be growing and evolving again because it impacted the brothers in meaningful ways. Not the least of which is the lifelong bonds of true friendship and brotherhood that were formed," Scott said. You can connect with Scott at wsmurray@ icloud.com.
