She was the daughter of the late Dr. Walter Eugene and Burdell Williams Furr. Mrs. Putnam is survived by her husband, Joe Billy Putnam; five sons, Dr. Bill Putnam (Jackie) of Jacksonville FL., Walter Putnam (Pamela) of Charlotte, Bob Putnam (Sharon) of Cherryville, Harry Putnam (Tanya) of Charlotte, and John Putnam (Anne) of Charlotte; twenty- two grandchildren; twenty- one great grandchildren; and siblings, Dr. Walter Furr, Jr. of Miami, FL, James Furr (Annette) of Burlington, NC, and Katherine Reid of Wilmington, NC. J.P. was a son of the late John F. Carpenter and Verda Beattie Carpenter. Mr. Carpenter served our country in the U.S. Army. In addition to his parents he was pre- ceded in death by a brother, Keith Carpenter. He is survived by his wife, Pat Taylor Carpenter of the home; a daughter, Donna Haskett and husband, Tim of Kings Mountain; two ROBERT LEE PROCTOR Robert Lee Proctor, 78, of Shelby, passed away January 11, 2020. He was a son of the late Sam Proctor and Marcella "Sillar" Catherine Lovelace Proctor. Mr. Proctor is survived by his son, Michael Proctor of Vale; daughter, Lisa Kolton and husband, Jeff of Shelby; two brothers, Dewey Proctor of Smithfield, VA and Sam Proctor of Shelby; three sisters, Reba Toney of Morganton, Willie S. Proctor of Newport News, VA and Mary Helen McCurry of Shelby; and two grandchil- dren and two great-grand- children. A memorial service was held in the Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home Chapel. WANDA PAULETTE TOWERY CARPENTER Wanda Paulette Towery Carpenter, 67, of Shelby passed away on January 13, 2020. She was a daughter of the late Paul and Hazel Towery. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. Ms. Carpenter is survived by her daughter, Tonya Young and husband, David of Shelby; two grandchil- dren; and one great-grand- child. Services were private. He was born to the late Helen McGowan and the late Roy Crawley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Michelle McGowan; two brothers, William McGowan and Thomas McGowan; two grandchildren; and his father and mother-in-law, William and Irene Washington. She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Donna Jolley Thrift; her hus- band, James Blaine Bowen; two brothers; and two sisters. Mrs. Bowen is survived by her sisters, Geneva Freeman and husband, Billy of Lattimore, and Katherine Holland and husband, Billy of Morganton; and sister-in- law, Geneva Thrift of Kings Mountain. She was the daughter of the late David and Minnie Lovelace. A funeral service was held at Greene Funeral Service, West Chapel, Gastonia. Burial was at New Camp Creek Church Cemetery in Kings Mountain. Mrs. Guiton is survived by her son, Dennis Philbeck of Grover; stepson, James Donald Guiton of Kings Mountain; daughter, Doris Philbeck Wilson and husband, James of Kings Mountain; brothers, James and Fred Lovelace; sisters, Julie Oliver, Bertha Truelove; eight grand- children; fifteen great-grand- children; six great-great- grandchildren. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by sons, Steve Carpenter and wife, Terri of Shelby; Daniel Carpenter and wife, Jennifer of Indiana; a sister, Faye Whitney of Shelby; and thir- teen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. HELEN HAWKINS Helen Hawkins, 97, of Boiling Springs, NC, went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 8, 2020 at Hospice in Shelby. She was the daughter of the late Guy McKinley Walker and Edna Peters Walker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Baxter (Drew) Hawkins; and her six younger siblings: brothers Hugh Walker, Guy (Bud) Walker, Carl Walker, Johnny Walker, and Earl (David) Walker, and sister, Shirley Brooks. Mrs. Hawkins is survived by her son and daughter-in- law, Ron and Hilda Hawkins, of Shelby; her daughter, Carolyn Hawkins Anderson of Houston, TX; three grand- children; six great grandchil- dren; and three step-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Corene C.
