March 20, 2013 Rotary doings Contributed by: Violet Kiss, President I often get asked, "What exactly is the Object of Rotary?" I thought it best to take the direct words from Rotary International itself. The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster: 1. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service; 2. High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society; 3. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life; 4. The advancement of International understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service. That answers the "what". If we, as Rotarians, foster the ideal of service as "service above self", in other words, "service beyond self", we do it is because we can and want to. On the world front, Rotarians joined Bill Gates, co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and other supporters of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative on the steps of the U.S. Capitol March 14th to encourage continued support for the campaign to end polio. Locally we are working on getting grants to further enhance and enlarge our community projects to help those in need, our youth and families, and to envision Quartzsite having a better future. We will keep you posted! The Quartzsite Rotary has a new permanent home with a new time and place! We will have meetings every 1st and 3rd Thursdays at 5:30 PM at Mountain Quail Cafe, 490 N Moon Mountain Road. Current, visiting Rotarians as well as Business Owners and other Professionals are all invited to come to our evening meetings, learn about us, what we do, what is Rotary, and simply enjoy each other's company!
