Other rich mines around Quartzsite were the Cinnabar, Copper Bottom, Farrar Gulch, La Cholla Placers, La Plomosa, Laguna, Mariquita, Red Cloud, Silver Clip, Trigo, and the Valenzuela, among many others. In 1912, Arizona became a state with an economy based on cattle, copper, cotton, citrus, and climate. Dramatic growth came after 1945, as snowbird retirees begin flocking to Arizona for the state's wonderful weather and lower cost of living. My guess is that, Miss Craigmiles would be pleased with what the oldtimers taught me about the history west of the Mississippi. In addition to the stage station, the Oasis Hotel was added in 1899. The Quartzsite Historical Society opened Tyson's Well Museum in February 1980, after extensive restoration work. The museum houses artifacts of the old west, photographs and old mining equipment. Outside in the yard is the original assay shack from the Mariquita Mine, which offers a peak into the everyday life of the miners. Also, in the yard is the handiwork of Walter Barrett. Just to the west of the museum are the ruins of the Oasis Hotel, which is being restored. The museum is open November through March; Wednesday through Sunday from 10 AM to 4 PM. Summer hours are 9 AM to 12 PM on Thursdays or by appointment. Admission is Free. Rail Splitters news for next winter season The "Rail Splitters" Dance Band has re-grouped for the 2013-14 winter season. They are featuring the sounds of the Country style accordion and keyboard by Betha. And new to group are Dick and June Bell. Well known entertainers of the southwest, singing their solos and duets country-style for dancing, Del Trogden on bass and vocals and welcoming back Dave Adams on great lead guitar and vocals. The band is very excited about the new sounds and songs of the group and are ready for your dancing to great country songs and other styles of dancing for the coming Snowbird Season. March 20, 2013 Bouse Geneology The Bouse Genies are a group of people who are interested in their personal genealogical research. All of the original members at some time throughout the winter of 2006 -2007 attended genealogy classes given by Carol Brown at the Bouse Library. Bouse Genies Meeting Schedule For the rest of the season The Bouse Genies regular meetings are held every other Friday at the Bouse Community Building from 9:30 am to 2 pm. Bring a Sack Lunch.
