Main St., Quartzsite 928-927-8081 By Joanne Winer Local bookstore owner, cartoonist, artist and musician Paul Winer recently had two very special concerts, where he played some great boogie woogie blues with some friends. The first was a benefit concert for the Q.I.A. in which Paul donated all the money from the concert to the Q.I.A. as a way of supporting their efforts to keep activities alive in Quartzsite during the winter months. He played this concert with Jerry Mullins and Ralph Martin, and special guest Buddy Apfel on valve trombone. His sold out shows every January have been so popular that he is already booked for next year, and will again do another benefit in March for the Q.I.A. | M M Paul also played a special concert last Saturday night at the brand new Fine and Performing Arts complex in Blythe at the Palo Verde College campus. Though the crowds were not so big, everyone there had a great time and laughed at his comedy and loved his piano blues and boogie woogie. He was accompanied by Ralph Martin as well as blues guitarist Ted Begerman, and also did a special duet with Morgan Mulac, 10 years old from Quartzsite who has also sang with him at other shows. He has already been told they want him back next year when more people are in town, and he also got booked at the Blues Festival that will take place in May.
