City Partners to Hold Community & Veterans Homeless Stand Down The City of Fayetteville is partnering with the local VA Medical Center and Volunteers of America to hold the annual Community & Veterans Homeless Stand Down in Festival Park. The event will be held Thursday, Aug. 22 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Fayetteville Area System of Transit (FAST) is providing transportation to and from the park; riders are asked to tell their driver that their destination is the Community & Veterans Homeless Stand Down. Services offered at the Stand Down include medical screening, free haircuts and manicures, veteran services, community services, housing assistance, NC Works employment assistance, Cumberland County Schools assistance and local, state and federal assistance. Veterans are asked to bring their VA card or DD214. All are welcome. Lunch will be served. For more information, call (910) 488-2120, ext. 7744. Park Closing Temporarily for Sewer Upgrades Subcontractors working with TA Loving will begin clearing work in the southern end of Clark Park, the Nature Center and the Cape Fear River Trail beginning Monday, Aug. 12. Portions of the Park will be affected to include the southern end of the Section F project area. The work is expected to continue until Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2019. During this time, both the Park and River Trail will be closed for public use. This schedule is subject to change, based on weather and any other unforeseen circumstances. Get Prepared for Hurricane Season Get prepared for Hurricane Season by visiting the City's Storm Information Center. The website contains useful information and links to keep you and your family safe during a storm. This will also be the place to find current and up-to-date information from the City during a hurricane. Sign Up For the City's E-Newsletter The City of Fayetteville has a citizen E-newsletter titled City Happenings. The E-newsletter keeps residents informed of what the City is doing to support them. It is published to subscribers every two weeks on a Mondays. Residents can subscribe directly here: http://eepurl.com/dj4W5T. Citizens can also subscribe to the E-Newsletter on the City's website by logging onto FayettevilleNC.gov via a subscription link at the top of the City website that says: "Subscribe to e-News." Download the City's Mobile App On Your Smartphone The City of Fayetteville's mobile app helps residents access City-related information in a very user-friendly format using their smart phones. The app is tied directly to the City's mobile-friendly website, FayettevilleNC.gov. This is the next step in the process of helping residents more easily find the information they need to connect with their City. Residents are encouraged to download the app, titled Fayetteville NC, which is available for free in the Apple App Store for iPhones and Google Play for Android devices. FayTV is available to subscribers of Spectrum Cable and all content is available for viewing on YouTube on-demand.
