P H I K A P PA TA U 4 A special evening for our beloved chapter was held on November 2, 2018 at Mississippi State. Three of our long-term brothers, John A. Madden Jr. '60, Larry G. Kirk '68, and the late James F. "Bud" Thompson Jr. '61 entered the Phi Kappa Tau National Hall of Fame. CEO of the Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity, Tim Hudson, Truman '97, was in atten- dance to present the awards and over 110 alumni, active members of the chapter, and distinguished guests attended the catered event. Additional awards presented included: • Gary L. Hawkins '61 – Brotherhood Award • William L. "Bill" Jones '60 – Phi Award • John Johnson '64 - Heritage Society • Barry S. Toney '85 – Phi Award • Guy M. Williams '89 - Taylor A. CELEBRATING OUR AMAZING ALUMNI CHAPTER ETERNAL James McMullen '47, born on November 23, 1922, passed away on May 5, 2018. James was a resident of Mississippi at the time of passing. Andes "Jack" Best '58 of Princeton, Ill., passed away on April 2, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family. Jack enjoyed going on cruises, golf- ing, fishing on the White River in Arkansas with his friends and his broth- er Fred, and spending time with family. He loved sitting on his screened porch all summer with his Porch Pals. Victor Montelle Putnam Jr. '64 of South Jordan, Utah, passed at his home on March 23, 2018. He graduated from Mississippi State University with a degree in chemical engineering and worked for Shell Oil (formerly Tex- aco) for over 30 years. Vic enjoyed mechanics, photography, computers, yard work, and crossword puzzles. He was a devoted husband and father. He was affectionately known as "Da" to his grandchildren and spending time with them was his favorite activity. Dr. Roger Walter Williams '65 passed away on April 15, 2018. He re- ceived his graduate degree from Mississippi State, and his doctor of veter- ALUMNI UPDATE inary medicine from Auburn University. "Doc" was an avid lover of ani- mals, boats, and airplanes. ALUMNI NEWS William Irby '61 still recalls working in a paper-pulp mill in Choctaw County, Ala. He worked there for 36 years, and during that time, the plant changed hands six times and had over 2,000 employees. They produced paper towels and toilet paper. William now lives on the western edge of the Great Smoky Mountains. You can connect with William at patriciairby@ comcast.net. Bryan Tribble '84 shares that after 20 years of children's ministry he has transitioned into adult ministry. He still resides in Vicksburg, Miss., but, his wife, Polly, works in Jackson, Miss., so there is a possibility of them moving back to Jackson. In addition to the exciting changes in his career, he looks forward to seeing his son graduate from high school in 2020 and for his personal retirement in 10-14 years!
